A blogger friend of mine has had a lot of trouble with her laptop which she purchased at a well-known retailer.  She’s so glad she took out warranty insurance when she bought it because that has covered all of the repair costs.  I guess for those getting a laptop, taking out a warranty or getting some laptop insurance is something to at least consider.  You never know when the same thing might happen that happened to my friend.

With the economy the way it is, it pays to get health insurance quotes and quotes on auto and property insurance.  We did this recently, and it turns out that we already have some of the best priced auto and property insurance available.  We did find some property insurance that was considerably lower, however, they didn’t cover leaking pipes such as from a washing machine, etc, or any foundation problems.   Hmmm….those sound like they really need to be covered, so we stayed with the insurance we had.  Plus, we get a discount having auto and property insurance with the same company.  You never know which company is best, though, until you get insurance quotes and compare.

One important aspect of being a home owner is to get good home insurance.  I know from experience how important that can be!  Several years ago a bad hail storm did a lot of damage to our roof, and our home owners insurance supplied a new roof.  Another storm a few years later blew over two huge trees in our front yard.  Again, our insurance fixed the hole in our roof caused by the trees and made our roof good as new.  It was great to have good home insurance coverage!

Do you ever stop and add up all of the insurance premiums you pay in one month?   It adds up to a lot of money!  That’s why it’s good to shop around and find the best auto insurance quotes, homeowner’s insurance quotes, health insurance quotes, and life insurance quotes.  We even have flood insurance, so that’s five different types of insurance for us.  It’s good planning to compare insurance quotes in order to find the best and most economical coverage.

There are all sorts of ways to save money here and there, by checking grocery ads every week and buying the specials, using coupons, checking life insurance rates and other insurance rates as well to get the lowest rate available, etc.  Also, keeping the thermostat set a couple of degrees lower in the winter and wearing a sweater in the house is another way.  I read recently where a lot of people aren’t eating out as much anymore and instead they are “dusting off their cookbooks” and eating at home.  That definitely saves money.  Saving money in several different areas does add up over time!

With the new year, it’s time to check out and make sure all types of insurance are covered.  If someone lived in North Carolina, for example, they would need to make sure they had NC health insurance, auto insurance, property insurance, and life insurance.  And if they lived in an area prone to flooding then they would need to have flood insurance.  It takes time to check on all of these, but it’s worth it to make sure that each type of insurance has the  amount of coverage needed.

There’s so much in the news about insurance nowadays, specifically health insurance.  It’s something we’ve always needed along with property insurance, auto insurance, life insurance, and maybe even flood insurance for some.  Back when we were self-employed, we had to have business insurance.   Have you added up the total amount of insurance costs for each month?  It’s quite a bit!  Makes it a necessity to get the best price on each type of insurance.

Medical costs are getting so expensive!  I think some things need to change, but changes need to be carefully studied and considered.  What should I do as an individual?  Do I need a health savings account or what exactly do I need?  Right now, I don’t know for sure.  This is something I need to research, and I also need to put in my two cents worth about health care to my representatives.

Insurance is the topic of a lot of people’s conversations these days.  Whether it’s NC short term health insurance, long term health insurance, accident  insurance, or whatever type of insurance, it seems a lot of people are talking about the future of insurance.   It’s something we need, yet there are problems with our present insurance system.  But changing the system without enough study about all the effects of any change is not a good thing in my estimation.  It needs to be studied from every angle to see ramifications of the change.   There needs to be input from many varied sources so that a nonpartisan group can come up with a workable solution.
