2-14-2010 Jehovah, the God who heals!

*

Literally thousands of people have been praying for Jenny (some of the prayers are written on a facebook site set up for her), a young wife and mother who entered the hospital a week ago with pneumonia which turned into Sepsis which left her fighting for her life.

*

I was thinking this morning about Jenny’s mother, Bev, who spoke last month at a ladies’ fellowship Bible study.  Last month, Bev’s topic was“Jehovah, the God who heals!” Little did she or anyone know that their daughter would be in such dire need of Jehovah’s healing in just three weeks .

*

Bev presented many scriptures.  Today, I want to focus on this particular one:

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV version)  from Biblegateway.com

*

Bev pointed out that this scripture is talking about “people who are called by my name,” in other words “Christians.”   We as Christians must come humbly before God, talk to Him in prayer, and search our hearts and souls for any wicked way in us…THEN God will hear our prayers, forgive our sin, and heal our land.

More scriptures that relate to the above scripture (from Biblegateway.com):

“humble themselves”:

  • “…All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”  1 Peter 5:5,6 (NIV)
  • “But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:  God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you.  Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.  Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.  Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”   James 4:6-10  (NIV)
  • “The greatest among you will be your servant.  For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”  Matthew 23:11-12  (NIV)

“pray”:

  • “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4: 6-7
  • “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.”  Ephesians 6:18

“seek my face”:

  • “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross…”  Hebrews 12:2
  • Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.  1 Chronicles 16:11
  • “My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, LORD, I will seek.”  Psalms 27:8
  • “Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.”  Psalms 105:4

“turn from their wicked ways”
