I Can’t Wait Until Easter Weekend!

I’m so excited about this next weekend! Our daughter, s-i-l, and Baby J are coming for Easter weekend. It will have been five weeks since we’ve seen them, but it seems a lot longer than that. I’m sure there are grandmas out there who understand exactly what I mean, especially “Mamaw.” It will be so neat to see all the things Baby J can do now that he couldn’t do a month ago. He’s seven months old now, so he’s pushing up with his arms when he’s on his tummy and it won’t be long until he’s crawling and getting into things. I can’t wait to hold him, feed him, and rock him to sleep. He’s so precious and adorable!

Our daughter and I will have to get in some time shopping, and that will be fun! We used to shop a lot together when she was in high school and college, and I always enjoy our time together. She’s such a sweet daughter! Our dear son and dear s-i-l will get in some good video game time, knowing the two of them. And my husband and I will be enjoying every minute of having family home for the holidays.  We’ll also get to be with Baby J’s other grandma, “Mamaw” and Aunt L.   So, my Easter weekend plans are to be with all my family, and I feel truly blessed!

Bloggers…Check out New Site

Check out this new site called Zero and Up where you can “learn to grow your earnings.” It has great information for seasoned bloggers as well as for those just starting out. I’ve learned helpful tips and also learned about some things I didn’t really fully understand. For example, on his most recent post, I learned about using Entrecard. I signed up for it today and have already started using it.  The site is really doing great for being less than a month old.  The writer has a good sense of humor which can be noted in the post, “Fail-proof plan to make your blog comment free!”  And by the way, there are some good comments on that post so check those out, too.  🙂

Small Business Phone Systems

We were in business years ago and had our own store. There are a lot of things to purchase for a business. If any of you are self-employed and have your own business, then you know what I mean. If you are looking for small business phone systems, then you might want to check out Neobits. Their customers say they are fast, courteous, and professional.

Butter Flavoring in Microwave Popcorn Tied to Lung Disease

  • The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences said in a news release on March 13, 2008, that a chemical used for butter flavoring on popcorn can damage the lungs and airways of mice.
  • The chemical name is diacetyl, and it can cause lymphocytic bronchiolitis, also called “popcorn lung.”
  • This disease has been seen in workers at microwave popcorn packaging plants and also at least one consumer.
  • Two microwave popcorn makers, ConAgra Foods Inc (includes Orville Redenbacher) and Weaver Popcorn Company Inc, recently said they would stop using diacetyl.
  • The House of Representatives passed a bill last year to limit exposure to diacetyl, but the Senate has not acted upon it.

I read about the dangers of butter flavoring last year. I don’t understand why these companies haven’t already stopped using diacetyl because of this reason.

We rarely eat microwaved popcorn since we prefer the taste of hot air popped popcorn with extra virgin olive oil and sea salt, plus it’s healthier. Air poppers aren’t carried in many stores, though, but they can be purchased through several online sites for around $20 and up if anyone is interested.

Spring Cleaning

Now that spring is nearly here, it’s the time of year to get everything clean. I’m already wanting to do spring cleaning because the weather was warm and sunny here today.   Not only is it nice to get our homes nice and clean, but some people may want to use a colon cleanse if they’re really in the cleaning mood.  It’s nice to be clean inside and out and not to worry about toxins building up.

Four Foods on Friday #21 Questions

From Fun, Crafts and Recipes

#1. What’s your favorite fruit and how do you like to eat it?

I like all fruit. My favorite is a fresh fruit salad with a variety of fruits, and then in the hot summer we like to have a fresh fruit fruilatti nearly every day.

#2. What is the one spice in your kitchen you use more than any other?

I add parsley to a lot of dishes when I’m cooking because it’s super healthy, so it would have to be parsley.

#3. Pudding. Instant, stovetop or premade?

I prefer stovetop made-from-scratch pudding. It’s delicious plus I know it doesn’t have a bunch of additives in it. But if I don’t have the time, premade is good.
#4. Share a recipe using potatoes.

For those who like lumpy mashed potatoes, this is a healthy, different, & easy way to make them. You don’t have to boil the potatoes, just bake in the microwave: “Bake First” Mashed Potatoes

OF Concepts

If you sit at a computer or desk area very long, then you know how important it is to have a comfortable chair that supports your back. OF Concepts has some really great buys on leather office chairs, and they are offering free shipping which is a great plus! They have a tremendous selection of quality office chairs at a super value. We shopped around for an office chair for my husband for Christmas, so I know these are great prices.

Types of Intelligence

Psychologist Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences is that each person has varying levels of different intelligences, so every person is different and has a “unique cognitive profile.”  When I taught in the public school system, I was a “Gifted and Talented” teacher for my grade level. I attended many workshops for G/T teachers, and we studied Howard Gardner’s theory which stuck in my mind. Here are his seven areas of intelligence or giftedness:

  1. Bodily-Kinesthetic has to do with movement or physical activity. Learning is best accomplished by physically doing something, rather than reading or hearing about it. People with this intelligence usually excel in sports, dance, acting, or building, for example, and this group might also include surgeons and soldiers.

  2. Interpersonal has to do with interaction, sensitivity, and empathy with others. Learning is best accomplished by working with people and discussing things. People in this group might include social workers, teachers, counselors, managers, or diplomats, for example.

  3. Verbal-Linguistic has to do with language and words, either written or spoken. Learning is best accomplished by reading, taking notes, listening to a lecture, debates, and discussions. People in this group can learn foreign languages easily and might include linguists, writers, politicians, lawyers, and teachers.

  4. Logical-Mathematical has to do with logic, reasoning capabilities, abstract pattern recognition, scientific thinking, and the ability to perform complex calculations. People in this group might include scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and doctors.

  5. Intrapersonal has to do with being introspective, self-reflective, and having a high level of self awareness. Learning is best when working alone. This group might include philosophers, psychologists, theologians, writers, and scientists.

  6. Spatial has to do with visualizing and spatial reasoning plus strong visual memory. These people have a good sense of direction and might include architects, engineers, and artists.

  7. Musical has to do with a high level of sensitivity to music, rhythm, tones, and sounds. Learning may be best accomplished through lecturing, and playing music in the background may assist learning. People in this group would be musicians, conductors, singers, and composers.

IQ tests measure a person’s Linguistic, Logical-Mathematical and Spatial Intelligence. A person might be a genius in another area, yet the typical IQ test would miss it. So don’t fully rely on IQ tests for intelligence levels.

What is Mesothelioma?

Most people know very little about mesothelioma, a serious cancer that occurs in people exposed to asbestos. I was surprised to find out that most manufacturers were aware of the hazards of asbestos as early as the 1920’s, yet asbestos continued to be used because it saved manufacturers money. Most corporations knew of these hazards. So that’s the bottom line…money was saved at the expense of people’s health! If you would like to know more, Mesothelioma Help has answers to questions plus support and help for those affected by it.

There are between two and three thousand new diagnoses of mesothelioma every year. The sad part is that it could have been prevented!
