Happy Thanksgiving to my Readers

To all of you who read my blog, I hope that you have a very happy Thanksgiving, that you can spend it with family &/or friends, and that you remember all the blessings you have received and give thanks for them. I am so thankful for all my blessings…. my family and the new addition of our precious “Baby J,” my friends, our health, our home and everything we have, but most of all I am thankful for God and his love, my relationship with Him and with his son Jesus, and the peace I have as a result. I know that all of the good things in my life are from God and so I thank Him for everything, not only today but all during the year. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! 🙂

Sunday Thoughts

This song was sung at a Diamond Rio concert. I don’t know who Diamond Rio is, but I think this is a really great song. Our country was founded on certain religious principles which can be seen in our Constitutions and even in engravings on our monuments and buildings in Washington, DC. Just look at the Preambles & State Constitutions of all 50 states. Every state mentions God. People are not forced to accept these principles, but the majority of the people in our country believe and trust in God. Anytime a crisis happens, many people turn to God. But there are some people who would like to outlaw any mention of God in public at all. I don’t think that’s a good idea considering the state of the world and the terrorist situation. I’m glad the large majority of people still believe in God!

Our Military

I need to remember to pray daily for our military and their families.  These men and women are fighting for our country…for us, and we in turn are able to enjoy the freedom we often take for granted.  “Freedom” is not free.  It comes with a price.  And these brave people are paying the price.   They are sacrificing being with their families and loved ones, and some are living in nightmarish conditions.   Many have given their lives!  I owe them my prayers and support.   I remember to pray for them a couple of times a week, but they’re over there every day so my goal is to pray for them every day.

The Star Spangled Banner – Note the 4th Verse

You’ve probably sung this song many times, but have you ever heard the 4th verse?  I thought it was worth sharing.

……………….

FIRST VERSE:

Oh! say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?

Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,

O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?

And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof thro’ the night that our flag was still there.

Oh!  Say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave,

O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

FOURTH VERSE:

Oh! Thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand,

Between their loved homes and the war’s desolation,

Blest with victory and peace, may the Heaven-rescued land,

Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.

Then conquer we must, for our cause is just,

And this be our motto — “IN GOD IS OUR TRUST.”

And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,

O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Treasure that Lasts!

Treasures here on earth won’t last.  They weren’t made to last.  Several years ago my childhood home burned down and was almost a total loss. Many things that had great emotional value were lost in the fire. Those treasures are gone forever.  But the treasure we have in Christ can never be taken away from us.
9 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth where they can erode away or may be stolen. 20 Store them in heaven where they will never lose their value and are safe from thieves. 21 If your profits (treasures) are in heaven, your heart will be there too. “
