Mesothelioma

There are many diseases and health problems that I never heard of growing up.  Take Mesothelioma, for example.  When I first heard about it several years ago, I had to look it up and do research.  According to Wikipedia, Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that develops from the protective lining that covers many of the body’s internal organs.  That lining is called the mesothelium, and that type of cancer is usually caused by exposure to asbestos.   Even washing the clothes of a person who works with asbestos can put a person at risk.   So now, when someone mentions Mesothelioma, I know what they’re talking about.

What is Mesothelioma?

Most people know very little about mesothelioma, a serious cancer that occurs in people exposed to asbestos. I was surprised to find out that most manufacturers were aware of the hazards of asbestos as early as the 1920’s, yet asbestos continued to be used because it saved manufacturers money. Most corporations knew of these hazards. So that’s the bottom line…money was saved at the expense of people’s health! If you would like to know more, Mesothelioma Help has answers to questions plus support and help for those affected by it.

There are between two and three thousand new diagnoses of mesothelioma every year. The sad part is that it could have been prevented!
