Home Lighting

Have you noticed that lighting in the home helps set the mood or atmosphere of a room?  Whether it’s Hinkley lighting or whatever type of lighting, it makes a difference.  Soft lights make for a more relaxing room.  Bright lights, of course, are good for working on a project or any type of visual work.   Having an assortment of overhead lighting and several lamps is a good idea so then the lighting can be adjusted for the atmosphere needed.

Blogging

It would be interesting to know how many of my readers are bloggers and how many are non-bloggers, meaning that they don’t have their own blog.   Anyone wanting to start up their own blog has to consider whether they want managed hosting, what type of theme they want, and other considerations.  They also need to brainstorm a niche for their blog and what voice they will use for writing.  After setting up a blog and doing some social networking, they would most likely develop several new blogging friends.  That’s one of the best things about blogging!

Tasty Tuesdays: Chocolate Mousse Pie

.

This is a delicious pie that is easy to make.  Bake your flaky pie crust ahead of time and let it cool.  Mix the ingredients together and spoon into the crust.  Top with Cool Whip and decorate with chocolate syrup and chocolate  chips.  Chill in the fridge for several hours.  It’s that simple!

INGREDIENTS:

  • German Sweet Chocolate, 4 ounce bar
  • Milk, 1/3 cup
  • Cream Cheese, 4 ounces
  • Sugar, 2 tablespoons
  • Cool Whip, 12 ounces
  • Pie crust, baked
  • Chocolate syrup
  • Chocolate shavings or chocolate chips (we use dark chocolate)

Bake pie crust and let cool.  Melt German Chocolate and 2 tablespoons milk in the microwave, stirring from time to time until smooth (1-2 minutes depending on your microwave).  Beat in the cream cheese, sugar and rest of the milk until blended.  Gently fold in 12 ounces of Cool Whip until completely mixed.  Spoon into crust.  Top with Cool Whip. Decorate the top of the pie with chocolate syrup and chocolate shavings or chocolate chips.

Menu Plan Monday

This is going to be a very busy week, so we have a very easy menu:

Monday:  Ground sirloin patties (we eat very little beef so this will be a treat), sauteed mushrooms, broccoli, corn

Tuesday:  Leftovers from Monday

WednesdayChicken Tortilla Soup

Thursday:  Leftover soup

Friday:  Good question!  Maybe pick up something with a coupon?

TV Reception

We still have our “old” 32 inch TV, definitely not the newest and latest in TVs.  So we’re not looking at tv stands or any of the items that go along with the newest TVs.  And you know what?  Our old TV works great and looks great in our entertainment center, so we’re satisfied with what we have.  We have a converter box plus a large antennae in the attic, and we get great reception and 30+ channels, enough channels to satisfy us.  After paying cable bills for years and years and years, it’s nice not to have that bill anymore.  And like I mentioned, we get great TV reception…for free!

Four Foods on Friday 125

From Val's Kitchen

Here’s this week’s question.  Tell me four things that you like cold or uncooked almost as much as you like cooked.

Val’s answer:

Hmmm…I had to think about this one.  I’d say:
1. Fried chicken
2. Salmon patties

That’s all I can come up with for now.  Maybe I’ll think of two more.

Hope y’all have a great week!  🙂

Moderation is the Key!

I have mentioned before that I try to eat holiday goodies in moderation by taking small servings.  Sometimes, just a bite or two of something is enough to satisfy me, especially if it’s a rich dessert.   If it’s chocolate, then I want more than a bite or two.  Chocolate necessitates having a small or regular size piece.

However, I don’t need the most effective diet pill.   Not keeping chocolate candy at home helps a lot.  I learned that lesson one year when I bought three bags of delicious chocolate candy on sale three weeks before Christmas.  It was all gone before Christmas ever got here.   And I ate most of it!

Strengthening Our Immune Systems

This is such a busy time of year with all the Christmas parties starting up.  Many people will be eating too much rich food and too many desserts.  They might even look into colon cleansing products to cleanse themselves from the effects of holiday food.

I try to eat holiday goodies in moderation, exercise a little (although it’s hard with a hectic schedule), and take my vitamins and supplements.  Recently, I read that a doctor believed the increase in colds and sickness this time of year could be partly attributed to the increase in the amount of sugar eaten during the holidays.  I wouldn’t doubt that at all!  Many different sources substantiate that fact…just do a little research.  Sugar is known for weakening the body’s immune system.  So, if you’re wanting to lessen your chances of getting sick then limiting sugar intake is a great way to strengthen your immune system.
