Watching Movies at Home

Some people have home theaters and watch movies with friends and relatives without the hassle of going to the theater. That would be neat to have a place where you could watch your favorite movies just like in the theater. I’m a big Jane Austin fan so I would enjoy watching “Emma,” “Pride and Prejudice,” plus the “Love Come Softly” series of movies. And what would really be fun would be to watch home movies of Baby J and family events with relatives. We could pop popcorn and have Cokes just like in the theater. And if Baby J were there with us too, then we could have his baby swing or portable Pack & Play in there too so he could swing or nap while we watched our movie. Doesn’t that sound like fun!  But I would think that most families couldn’t afford it unless they had discount home theater seating

“Just One Moment Please While I Put You on Hold”

How many times have we heard those words! And then we’re probably on hold anywhere from 5-45 minutes or longer. And yes, we were really on hold for at least 45 minutes one time. The great thing about cordless phones is that when we hear those annoying words, “Just one moment please while I put you on hold,” we can still go about what we need to do around the house and not be stuck sitting in one spot for what seems like forever. I put my cordless phone on speaker mode and take it from room to room with me as I continue doing what I need to do. I can still unload the dishwasher, go to the laundry room and put a load of clothes in the wash, dust or whatever. And if your cordless phone battery goes out from all that time spent on hold (LOL) then it’s really easy to recharge or replace it! 🙂

How To Clean No-Wax Floors

Before we got our no-wax floor, I use to clean with Lysol.   One of the men who installed our no-wax floor said not to use Lysol anymore.  That would dull the finish.  He said one of the best things to use is white vinegar.  So I pour 1/2 cup white vinegar in my mop water.  And it does a great job.  The only thing is that you don’t have that clean Lysol smell, but the floor looks great and the shine is still there after several years.

Waterproof Curtain for Bathtub Window

……….

I tried to find a waterproof curtain for the window above our bathtub.  We usually take showers and water would get in the window sill and also get on the cloth curtain.  I wanted to keep water out of the window sill but couldn’t find anything suitable to prevent that from happening.  I finally thought of buying an inexpensive vinyl shower curtain liner and made my own curtain out of it.  The vinyl was so soft and almost cloth-like.  (If you make this, be sure to get the least expensive shower curtain liner because the thinner material is more like cloth.)

  • First, I measured the height of the window and added two and a half extra inches to allow for the curtain rod insert pocket which would be at the top of the window curtain.  I cut off the top of the shower liner (with the holes) and used the bottom part of the liner for the window curtain.
  • I simply folded down the top of the new window curtain one and a half inches to form the rod insert pocket.  I used button thread to make simple stitches to make the rod insert pocket.  (If your sewing machine isn’t in the attic like mine then you could just stitch it on the sewing machine.)
  • I used a thin pressure type rod to hang the curtain.

It’s very simple to make and you don’t have to hem the very bottom or sides of the curtain.   We’ve been using the new curtain for several months now and it works great and looks fine!

When you want to clean it, just use the delicate cycle on your washing machine to wash.  To dry it,  put it in the dryer on the low heat for a couple of minutes or so, then hang it back in the window.

* Update:  Several years later, we’re still using this window curtain, and it works really well!   See new photo above.
