Conference & Three-Way Calling

When our daughter was a teenager, she and her friends used three-way calling to their advantage.  She would call two friends who had three-way calling, and then each of them would call two people.  They would end up with their own conference calling.   Conference calling is used by people for various reasons.

Have you ever used three-way calling?  We haven’t in a long time, but when there’s a need to talk to family members about something, then it’s great.

Job Postings

I’m very thankful to have the job that I have.  So many people are still looking for work and are checking out  job postings.  If they’re a nurse then they’re checking out the health care job postings.  If they’re a teacher then they’re checking out the teaching profession job postings.  The sad thing is there are so many people looking for jobs that it’s harder to find a job.  The key is persistence and diligence in looking for a job.  Don’t give up!

Buying Shoes Online

There are a lot of people who buy shoes online, and there are a lot of sites that sell shoes such as mbt shoes.   Apparently, there’s a big market for that. I don’t know about you, but I’m hesitant to buy shoes without being able to try them on first.  Shoes that are tight and ones that let my foot slip to the end of the shoe bother my feet.  There must be a policy with online shoe sites that let’s you send them back if they don’t fit.  I’ll have to check that out sometime.

Tasty Tuesdays: Muzzie’s Brown Sugar “Icebox”Cookies

.T

This is a cookie recipe that my mother made many, many times when I was growing up.  We loved it!  My mother got it from my grandmother who the family lovingly called “Muzzie.”  One of her toddlers said Muzzie for Mother and she was called Muzzie as a term of endearment the rest of her life by family members and very close friends.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cream of Tartar
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Optional – 1 cup nuts

Cream the first 3 ingredients.  Mix all of the dry ingredients and add to the butter mixture.  Using waxed paper, make a long roll of the dough, about 2 inches in diameter, and wrap well in the waxed paper.  Chill well, slice and bake at 350 degrees. Bake 8-9 minutes for a soft cookie and 10-11 minutes for a crisper cookie.

The dough can be made a day or two (or longer) before you need to bake it. If it’s going to be kept several days, it would be good to store the dough in a large gallon size plastic bag after wrapping with wax paper. It’s interesting how people had slice and bake cookies decades ago!

Ads on Products

We have several pens around the house that have advertising on them as well as several calendars.  Companies are pretty clever to put their ads on things people often use.  We don’t have any custom usb drives with advertising on them, but I know they make them.  Sometimes the products with ads on them can turn out to be pretty good.  One time we had a couple of pens from a hotel that lasted forever.  Those are the type I like to get, quality products!

Cell Phones

Cell phones are such a big part of our lives nowadays.  If we go somewhere and don’t have our phone, we miss having it with us.  Do you think cell phones are used for texting even more than for talking?  I think they probably are.  It doesn’t matter what type of phone people have, whether it’s Atrix or some other brand, most people use it many times during the day to text or talk.  In fact, cell phones have even replaced some people’s home phones.  We definitely depend on them nowadays!

Rewarding Job

I’ve been an elementary school teacher most of my life.  I have done a little in sales jobs, but what I really enjoy is teaching.  When I was a little girl, I would play like I was a teacher and would teach my stuffed animals.  In high school, I taught the toddler’s class at church.  It’s something that is a part of me, and I’m very thankful I have a job that is so rewarding!

Valentine’s Day Giveaway: “Fireproof

This Valentine’s Day giveaway is dedicated to “love in marriage.” The theme song for my giveaway is not one from the “Fireproof” movie soundtrack, but this one:

“We’re dancing in the minefields, we’re sailing in the storms. And this is harder than we dreamed, but I believe that’s what the promise is for.”

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!  To celebrate this day, I’m having a giveaway for the DVD “Fireproof.”  My theme for this giveaway is “Love in marriage.”  If you haven’t heard of “Fireproof,” it’s a great movie about saving a marriage that’s on the brink of divorce.  All hope seems lost for any chance to save the marriage, but through practicing an active love that meets the needs of the other person, the marriage in the movie was saved.  Not only was it saved, but it transformed into a beautiful relationship, deeper than ever before, because it was based on true, agape-type love.  This doesn’t just happen in movies.  I’ve read about real accounts of this happening, and I’ve seen it happen in the lives of two girlfriends of mine, one several years ago and the other, many years ago.  So what the movie portrays is not just a bunch of hype.  It’s real!

Even though marriage can be hard at times, a couple is in it together and can still “dance” even when times are stormy because of the agape love they have for each other and the commitment…the promise…they have made to each other.  But more importantly…the promise they have made before God.  So if you know someone who’s marriage is falling apart, maybe you could tell them about this giveaway, or you could enter the giveaway and give the DVD to them if you win.  Or maybe, like us, you really like the movie and would like to have your own copy of it.  Either way, here’s the scoop:

Safe Driving

Did you know that there are cutting edge, safe driving systems that have been created with an emphasize on safe driving behavior and creative technology?   One patented system monitors drivers and “mentors” them so they can learn to reduce speeding and aggressive driving.   It also monitors seat belt habits to encourage drivers to always wear their seat belt so they will be in compliance with the law.

Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) is the safety program used by FMCSA to encourage safer driving by large trucks and buses.  It focuses on seven major behaviors that cause crashes.  CSA 2010 is such a program.  Being a solution oriented global leader, inthinc is devoted to improving safer driving behaviors with programs such as this.

Teenagers just learning to drive are a major concern for many parents.  It’s not that their teen is a bad driver but rather an inexperienced driver when it comes to handling a vehicle on a busy road.  There are all types of factors such as distracted driving that can cause accidents, and inthinc is committed to helping reduce those accidents.
