Menu Plan Monday 10-24-11

I mentioned this month is one of those overwhelming months with so much to do as a teacher!  I’ve been remembering the verse that says to take one day at a time, and I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  That’s encouraging!  AND I’m starting to get the holiday bug.  No, I’m not sick…I’m starting to get excited about getting to see family around the holidays.  That’s what makes holidays so special is getting together with those we love!  And while we’re doing that, let’s try to remember those who are lonely and and maybe invite them over sometime around the holidays.

.
Monday:  Salmon Patties, black eyed peas, baby carrots

Tuesday: Leftover Salmon Patties, black eyed peas, carrots

Wednesday:  Bring in fried chicken breasts and okra, salad

Thursday: Italian Chicken Pasta (Barilla Plus Pasta) and salad

Friday:  Maybe go somewhere out to eat.

Essilor Launches Facebook Game/Sweepstakes & $25 GIVEAWAY

* Giveaway ended November 5, 2011

Do you know about Essilor?  The reason I do is because I have progressive lenses in my eyeglasses that were made by them.  They are awesome lenses, and I’m thankful to have such lightweight glasses that help me see so clearly.  When I got my lenses from them, I found out that Essilor just happens to be the leading manufacturer of optical lenses in the U.S., and they are the leader in progressive and anti-reflective coated lenses.

So now that we all know about Essilor, have you heard about their sweepstakes and about Crizal lenses?  They are the only No-Glare eyeglass lenses that eliminate the enemies of clear vision (glare, scratches, smudges, dust, and water).  Here’s info:

  • “The sweepstakes will offer one lucky grand prize winner a MOTOROLA XOOM™ with Wi-Fi, a $1,000 general use gift card and their very own Crizal lenses. The second place winner will receive a $1,000 gift card and Crizal lenses, and the third place winner will receive a $500 gift card and Crizal lenses.”
  • The sweepstakes will end on Oct. 31 at 8:00 pm CST.  Consumers can play the game and enter the sweepstakes by visiting the CrizalUSA Facebook page and clicking on the Contest tab.

Essilor is also privileged to support the Foundation for Eye Health Awareness and its efforts to educate Americans on the importance of eye health and the importance of taking care of their eyes through its campaign Think About Your Eyes:

Crizal lenses can help adults and children see, look and feel better.  Essilor has a great promotion to encourage consumers to defeat the five enemies of clear vision with the “Combat the Enemies of Clear Vision with Captain Crizal®” Facebook game and sweepstakes.   These are the five enemies which those of us who wear glasses know can be irritating:

  1. Glare
  2. Scratches
  3. Smudges
  4. Dust
  5. Water

With that said, let me tell you about the giveaway.

Win it:

One lucky reader will win a $25 Visa gift card.  This contest is open to all U.S. residents. Entries will be accepted until midnight CST Saturday, November 5, 2011.  Winner will be chosen by Random.org.

Mandatory Entry:

Visit CrizalUSA Facebook page and play the “Combat the Enemies of Clear Vision with Captain Crizal®” Facebook game and sweepstakes and leave a comment on the Crizal USA Facebook wall.  Say that “Healthy Home Blog sent me here, and I played the game for a chance to win.”

Looking for Jobs

There are so many people looking for work nowadays. Quality Assurance Director Jobs are available in many areas, but a person would have to research and see what qualifications are necessary.  It definitely would be worth checking into if someone needed a job and felt they might qualify.  Some colleges have jobs posted for their graduates, and that’s a good place for college students to check.  Just driving around and looking for new businesses being built, checking the local classified ads, and talking to people and networking are all good ways to search for a job.

More About Having a Small Business

Anyone who has a small business needs to think about how they are going to finance all of the costs involved in running a business. Costs include rent, utilities, insurance, advertising, furnishings for the business, computer, and all of the many small items that are used on a daily or weekly basis. There are unsecured small business loans available for those who are making a certain amount in credit card sales. This might help give a small business the boost that it needs.

Starting a Business

Years ago, we started our own business, but it only lasted for three years. The economy went bad and then the city decided to widen the street in front of our store.  There was construction going on for months and months, making it hard to access our newly founded business. We kept expenses to a minimum and didn’t use a business lawyer.  But still, there are an amazing amount of expenditures for a business.
Now someone starting a business in Raleigh, NC, for example, might want to research business lawyers raleigh nc to start up a business in this day and age. They would have to think about insurance, utilities, advertising, and many other things. Like I mentioned, there are so many costs involved in starting up and maintaining a business!

Going on a Trek

A couple of years ago, our son went on a trek up a mountain in Colorado with a group from church. They had two experienced guides with them which eased my mind about our youngest child (age 17 at the time) going up to the top of a huge mountain. I don’t know if any of them used Trekking Poles or not, but I know they wore cleated shoes to grip the mountain as they went up steep slopes.

The hikers spent the night in tents and ate campers food (the exact opposite of deli food).  Some parts of the mountain trek were extremely challenging (and sounded almost dangerous to me).  I must say that after hearing from some of the other trekkers, we were very proud of our son and how he carried the gear of weaker hikers who were about to collapse, even though that made his load twice as heavy.  That is a memory of his trek that I will always treasure!

Water Softeners

We have a water softener out in our garage. We “inherited” it when we bought this house, but it doesn’t work. We checked into how much it would cost to fix it once, but we decided that the repair was too expensive. Aquatell water softeners and other brands are on the market, and if we really wanted a water softener then it would be better to buy a new one than to have our old one repaired. Do any of you have a water softener?

An Enjoyable Evening

Some friends of ours invited us to go to the Symphony with them last month. They had extra tickets and treated us to a great evening. It was on a Friday evening and people didn’t dress up as much as they do on Saturday evenings. I was glad because I wasn’t in the mood to dress up a lot. (I really don’t have anything fancy)  There were probably people there with diamond earrings and necklaces, Black diamond earrings and nice jewelry, though.  Some people did dress up more than others, but I was fine with how I dressed.

After the concert was over, we went to Starbucks and talked and visited for a while. We all share a love of various types of music. My husband plays not only the guitar (which I’ve mentioned before) but also the violin. Our friend played the viola when she was younger. So it’s just natural that classical music would be enjoyable for both couples.  It was a fun evening just to be with friends

Chair Casters

Something I really appreciate is having computer chairs with casters on them.  My computer chair at home and at work both have casters which makes it so much more convenient when I need to get something close by and don’t want to get up.   I can just roll over and get what I need.

Once we had a chair and one of the casters broke.  It was nice that we (actually, my husband) could replace it so that we could still use the chair which was in great condition.  I’m all for fixing something, if possible!

Cleaning House, etc.

It’s hard coming home from teaching and having the energy to clean house or even cook supper, especially since I stay later most days. I don’t need anything like durham maid service, though, because my husband is good to do most of the house cleaning, do most of the laundry (I wash my own clothes), and do most of the cooking. That really helps because I’m so tired most days when I get home!  Now, during the summer, I do most of the cooking because I enjoy it.  It’s all relative to my energy level.
