The Struggle of Losing Weight

Losing weight is a struggle for so many people. I want to lose ten pounds, but right now I’m having a hard time eating as healthy as I want to. It’s not like I need apidexin or any type of diet pill, but I do need to cut out the sweets we’ve been having the past week while celebrating my husband’s birthday. And I need to exercise more which is hard to fit in with a busy beginning of school schedule.
.
Here’s part of my problem. My husband received a birthday coupon from Cold Stone Creamery, and we discovered their “Founder’s Favorite Signature Creation.” That was so delicious! Then I got an email coupon from them to celebrate the Labor Day holiday weekend: “Buy One, Get One Free.” Guess where we went last night. You’re right!

.
I am not going to lose ten pounds if we keep going to get ice cream, which we honestly rarely do. With my husband’s birthday past and one birthday left to celebrate the end of this month (our daughter’s), I hope I can stay off most sweets…until the Thanksgiving holidays get here anyway.
.
One good thing about our daughter’s birthday is that she has been sticking to healthy eating for the past month while reviewing Freshology meals on her blog (Frugal Novice). And she’s going to be doing it (Freshology meals) for one more month. So, I’m thinking about maybe an angel food birthday cake for her birthday, topped with low-fat frozen yogurt plus fresh fruit to decorate the top of the cake.

Xbox Games

A lot of people are wanting to buy xbox games.   What’s so cool about them?  Well, Xbox is developed by Microsoft and uses a camera to track the player’s motion through the Kinect Peripheral.  It has high definition and better graphics than the Wii, can play DVDs, and you can watch Netflix on it.  It recently underwent a price drop, and Dell recently offered free Xbox consoles to students buying laptops.  That’s pretty cool!  (Thanks to our college-age son for supplying me with the info!)

Menu Plan Monday 8/29/11

Yay!! We all survived the first week of school. Most of us teachers were exhausted by this past Friday. The past two weeks, I did two 50 hour work weeks back to back plus my blogging job opps. This past Saturday, I stayed in my PJ’s most of the day and didn’t venture out of the house. We had good leftovers to eat so we didn’t really have to cook. It was a restful day! With that said, here’s our menu for this week:
.
Monday: Eat out! Yay!

Tuesday: Chicken Italian Pasta, salad, sauteed yellow squash

Wednesday: Chef Salad with fresh veggies and easy homemade turkey bacon (free of nitrates, nitrites, etc.)

Thursday: Salmon Patties (we really like Salmon Patties, can you tell?), corn, green beans

Friday: Pizza, salad

Song Share: “My Hope is in You” by Aaron Shust

I won’t be shaken by drought or storm” are words from this fairly new song, “My Hope is in You,” which shares the hope we have in God to take care of us.  No matter what storm we’re going through (loss from an actual storm or drought, illness, loss of job and income, family problems, and the list goes on), God is the only solid rock we have.  Circumstances can change, people can change, but God never changes.  He is our fortress in any storm!

Isaiah 40:28-31
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Our Son Plays Steel Drums

For those of you who don’t know, our son has played in school band since he started sixth grade. He’s now a junior in college, so if you do the math then you’ll know that he’s been playing for nine years. He’s played percussion all nine of those years. In high school, he played mostly on the marimba and vibes. But since he’s been in college, he’s also been playing steel drums. In fact, this year he will be not be playing in marching band at all but will only be doing the Percussion Ensemble where he will be playing steel drums. He really enjoys doing that!

The only bad part is the vast majority of their concerts have been during the week, and as a school teacher, I really can’t afford to take off work a couple of days to travel and see their concerts. The next best thing is video tape which we love being able to watch. I’m hoping this year is different and that they will have a concert or two on the weekend where we can attend!

Types of Insurance

There are all types of insurance on the market, but one that I have never heard of until now is buy sell insurance.  So just what type is this?   Apparently, it’s a good type for businesses to have.  If one partner passes away then the other partner gets the remaining half of the business.  It’s a type of insurance that makes sure the business continues and is really what you would call a business protection insurance.

Momfever is “just trying to keep cool” with five children, a husband, and housework to take care of.  Her oldest is 16, a girl, plus she has three boys and another girl.  Blogging is one way she retains her sanity as she tells tales of marriage, shares cartoons she’s written herself, and a  gives a look into her life as a mother of five.  Check out her Wordless Wednesday categories for some pictures to make you laugh.  And by the way, she  does product reviews too.

Can People Get Mange?

School has started and with that comes the possibility of getting lice, however small that possibility might be. But do you ever think about getting mange, something we think about animals getting in their fur and skin? Can people even get mange from their pets?  Yes, they can, and the most common type of mange is called scabies.  OK, now most of us have probably heard of scabies even if we don’t know what it is.  Although it’s not real common, it does happen that people catch scabies from animals they are in close contact with.  So, if one of your pets gets mange then you need to look at mange remedies.  And be sure to wash all of your pet’s things thoroughly!

By the way, for those of you who don’t know what scabies is, it’s often been referred to as the “Seven Year Itch.”  It is a contagious skin infection caused by a tiny mite which is hard to see.  It burrows under the skin and makes a person miserable with itching (an allergic itch).  Archeological evidence shows that scabies was around in 494 BC, so it’s nothing new.

Supplies, Clothing, and Uniforms

There are so many people shopping these days for all sorts of things. The list includes school clothes and school supplies for children in elementary, middle, and high schools. And I can’t forget college students since we have one that is a junior in college. He has to buy books and supplies, etc. Someone going to nursing school would need to look at buying a nurse uniform at some point in their education. Medical students would need medical supplies and possibly scrubs. And the list could go on and on for all types of students needing all types of supplies and clothing!

Converting PDF to Word Documents

Many scanners on the market have software that convert a scanned image to a PDF.  However, the material that was scanned is not editable. People without optical character recognition (OCR) software cannot edit the files they scan. They have no way of converting pdf to word. This is inefficient because they have to spend extra time retyping and reformatting their information.
.
For many people, it would be very handy to have a program that would convert from pdf to doc in order to make changes on anything they scan and anything they have in a PDF file.  Changes might include adding a header where there is none, adding supporting information, editing a photo to make it larger or smaller depending on the needs of the writer, etc.  People who are doing research writing or who want to rearrange text or pictures in different places may find this ability to convert PDF to word quite useful.

Technology & Web Conferencing

We definitely live in a technological age.  Technology is taught in most schools, even to the youngest of students. Our young grandchildren, ages two and four, know a lot about technological devices for their age. As a teacher, I am fascinated by what a great tool technology is for nearly all students, whether they are gifted or whether they have a learning disability. A great online educational program or software is invaluable! There are also learning communities online which greatly facilitate the learning process for older students.  Technology is a must for just about any educational setting!
.
There are other avenues of technology which are extremely useful such as web conferencing.  People who  take part in a conference such as this are able to interact in a meaningful way and can participate with ease.  A lot of corporations and agencies benefit from this type of technology.   If they need to, they can find a web conferencing solution such as a host which manages everything, eliminating complicated hardware or software to install.  They can even outsource their IT management to another company and still maintain control.  This takes a lot of the hassle out of setting up conferencing capability.  This type of communication though web conferencing enhances the relationship involved between entities, and is a great for Web meetings, webinars, and even eLearning for online training.
