A Busy Time

This is such a busy time with substitute teaching almost every school day, doing my private tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and then trying to keep up with my two blogs.   The weekends are busy, too, with a trip every now and then to see the kids & grandbabies, with our kids coming to visit every so often, church on Sundays plus activities, and with all of the other things we’re involved in.  I haven’t used bowtrol, but I make sure to eat healthy, get enough sleep, try to work in a little exercise (not enough, but some is better than none, right?), and take my vitamins and supplements.

Weather

We have been having so much rain which is great because we need rain.   However, it has been cloudy and humid for so many days that people are longing to see the sun.  During the summer when it was so hot and dry and you needed wrinkle creams to keep your skin from drying out, people were wishing for rain.

Ideally, it would be nice to have rain for two or three days a week and then sunshine for the rest of the week.  However, we are not the ones in control of the weather.  So I guess we need to be thankful for the rain which we really need! And when sunny days come, we will be really thankful for them!

Fall is Here!

Wow, I can’t believe how fast this year is going by.  Fall is definitely here! Halloween’s just two and a half weeks away.  And then Thanksgiving is soon to follow.  The day after that is “Black Friday” (when some people may think they need safety vests to survive), and then the Christmas season begins.

The leaves have not started changing colors here yet in north Texas.  My husband says they will probably turn colors later this year because of all the rain we’ve had.  I think that means, too, that the colors will be more brilliant and last longer.  I sure hope so.  I love the colors of fall!

7,8,9,10,11

Here’s an interesting little tidbit of info.  Today is 7-8-09, so when the clock says “10:11” then you will have five consecutive numbers.  Some kids (of all ages) might think that’s fun!  It’s noon right now, so 10:11 AM has passed, but if your kids are up after ten this evening, they might think it’s cool to look at the clock on 7-8-09 @10:11.

Time Makes a Difference

This is the view out of my kitchen window.  My curtains look dark, but they actually match the cream color of the blooms on the Crepe Myrtle tree just outside the window.  Every day when I’m standing at the sink, I see this pretty view.  Years ago when we first moved to this house, all I could see out this window were a lot of rooftops and the very tops of a few small trees.  Time really does make a difference.

When thinking about the concept of “time,” there are some verses in the Bible that I like to think about.  In fact, these verses are in a popular song by the Byrds called “Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is a Season).”

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8:

  1. To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
  2. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
  3. A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
  4. A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
  5. A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
  6. A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
  7. A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
  8. A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

It’s Been a Crazy Week!

It’s been a crazy week for me and a lot of other people as well.  First, I was sick on Mother’s Day with a stomach virus, and so I didn’t get to wear my corsage to church and go out to eat afterwards.  That really stunk!  But I did get to wear the corsage on Thursday and go out to eat for a belated Mother’s Day dinner.

It took longer than usual to get my energy back from that nasty virus, and I ran a fever for a couple of days on Sunday and Monday.  Then, I did substitute teaching on Thursday and Friday.  Also, we’ve been getting things ready for a senior banquet and other senior activities this weekend, so my poor blog has been greatly neglected this week.   I have a cool smoothie recipe I want to post soon, so maybe tomorrow or Monday you’ll be seeing that.  For now, hope everyone has a great weekend!

Wow! We Got a LOT of Rain!

It rained so hard here in Texas on Saturday that our driveway and sidewalk flooded briefly.  We have a French Drain, but there was too much water all at once and the drain couldn’t handle it.  In the top picture, you can see how much of our driveway is covered with water.   It was quite a storm!

In the second picture, there’s a step to get from the sidewalk to the porch.  The water completely flooded our sidewalk, part of our flower bed, and began to come upon the porch.  Thankfully, that’s as far as it got.  We’ve never had to use sandbags, but I was beginning to think I might have to get out towels and blankets to put in our entryway if the water got any higher.

After the storm passed, we drove around looking at all the high water.  We were able to help a lady who got stranded and then accidentally locked out of her car.  Her purse and cell phone were locked in her car, and so she was standing out in the rain trying to get someone to stop and help.  She was so appreciative when we stopped!

Spring is Almost Here!

I’m so glad spring is nearly here!  We’ve had some cold, windy days recently, and the wind would “chill to the bone.”  With springtime comes warmer sunshiny weather that is good for working out in the yard and flower beds.  (Which reminds me that we’re seriously considering planting a small vegetable garden this year.)  Also this time of year, people tend to think more about weight loss products and exercising more.  And we can’t forget “spring cleaning.”  I’ve already started…I couldn’t wait for spring to actually get here.

One of Our Favorite Movies

If you’ve never seen Walt Disney’s movie, The Parent Trap, then I recommend it.  It’s a fun, entertaining movie about two identical twin girls who were separated at birth and know nothing of each other’s existence…until they meet at camp.  And then the fun begins!  Their mother is a successful fashion designer in London, and their father has a huge vineyard in California, although I don’t know if he has a wine of the month. The movie has all sorts of twists and turns and is delightful to watch.

Shop, Cook, Eat

I went grocery shopping, and I was thrilled to save over $41.00 on my grocery bill.  I had a $5 coupon towards the turkey which was on sale for 67c/pound, two coupons – each for a free 12-pack of Coke, plus 98% of what I bought was on sale and I was thankful for that.  There’s a lot of cooking to be done over the next few days, but my goal is to eat moderately so I won’t need to order Phentermine.

A Crazy Week!

This week has been crazy! Last week, I had my schedule planned for this week, and when this week arrived, several unexpected things popped up. Now I’m running behind on all that I had planned to get done. So, I’m “going with the flow” and trying to get everything done on my list the best I can. Do you have weeks like this? I really don’t need to ask that question! 🙂

Happy Memorial Day

We went on a weekend trip to Austin and just returned home, so this is a little late. I hope everyone had a nice, safe Memorial Day today and remembered those who are honored by this day.   My prayers are with those who are defending our country!
