Review: Computer Desk from CSN Stores

I left a clue about what I was going to get with my gift certificate from CSN.  Did anyone catch the clue?  It was in my post about My Office Area Needs Help!  This is what I had written: “I have my monitor on a nice stand, however, I have to put my keyboard on a wooden TV tray and have trouble with my mouse falling off. What I really need is a new desk!”

CSN Stores.com has so much to choose from, but I knew I wanted a desk.  The computer desk that you see pictured here is what I chose.  I am so excited to have this stylish new desk!  Here’s the review I wrote about it:

By Mom from Texas on 9/6/2010
Your Rating: 5 stars
Headline: Great contemporary-style desk!

Pros : Easy To Move, Sturdy Construction, Attractive Design, Space Saver, Drawer Slides Smoothly, Easy To Clean, Easy To Assemble
Best Uses : Bedroom, Smaller Offices, Living room
Describe Yourself : Budget Shopper
Primary use : Personal

This desk is perfect for the small space I have. Our kids (college-age and 20’s) like my stylish contemporary desk.  It’s a great buy for the money, and my husband and I were surprised how quickly it arrived.  We are very pleased with this desk!

Can you tell how much we like it?  I can see why it’s one of their top sellers!

* CSN supplied me with a gift certificate which I used for my desk.  However, I did not receive any monetary compensation for this review.  This is my honest opinion of their product.

Tasty Tuesdays: Powdered Sugar Cookies

My mother-in-law’s favorite sugar cookie recipe is a special family recipe!  She’s been making these cookies for years and got the recipe from another relative.  My m-i-l needs to gain weight so I suggested we make these cookies while we were there visiting this summer.  I don’t know if she gained any weight….but I definitely did!!  Oh well, now I remember why I rarely bake cookies.

These cookies are soft and yet delicately crisp at the same time.  They’re rich tasting and melt in your mouth.  They should be rich tasting considering they have one cup of oil and one cup of butter (the Pioneer Woman would like all the butter in these!)  In my opinion, I think these cookies would be great to serve at a wedding or baby shower, especially if rolled in colored sugar to match the colors of the shower.  They’re definitely not healthy so really these should be just special occasion cookies.  Here’s the recipe:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup sugar (plus extra sugar to roll the cookies in)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup canola oil
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Colored sugar for special occasions

DIRECTIONS:

Combine the sugars, butter, oil and salt.  Beat well with mixer.  Add eggs.  Add dry ingredients.  Chill dough.  Make into balls, roll in sugar, and place on ungreased cookie sheet.  Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes.

Here are the cookies we made at my mother-in-law’s house.  Wish I could take one off the plate right now!

Little Things Make a Difference

There are a lot of people who are having a hard time right now.  Maybe they are out of work and are wondering how they’re going to feed their children.  We know of several during the past year or so who have gone into work to a job they’ve had a long time, only to find out they no longer had a job.  And think of those down on the coast who might need an offshore injury lawyer.  There are also those who are grieving the loss of a loved one and those who are separated from their loved one who is in the military.

As we go about our daily life and encounter people, we don’t know what they’re going through.  A smile, a kind word, a thoughtful gesture or a random act of kindness might make a difference in their day.  We never know how some little thing we do might help someone having a hard day!

September is Pain Awareness Month

Did you realize that many Americans suffer from lower body pain?  One source said that 80% of Americans suffer from that type of pain.  I had no idea the percentage was that high.   I also found out that Dr. Scholl’s has some affordable solutions to help alleviate pain.  Their line of Dr. Scholl’s Pain Relief Orthotics are specially designed insoles for all-day pain relief in the feet and lower body.  They have different types of insoles which provide the following types of relief:

  • Arch Pain Relief
  • Arthritis Pain Relief
  • Back Pain Relief
  • Heel Pain Relief
  • Knee Pain Relief

Dr. Scholl’s has given me the opportunity to review three of their products for Arch Pain Relief, Back Pain Relief, and Arthritis Pain Relief.  My favorite are the ones for arch pain relief.  I have higher arches, need arch support, and have some shoes that don’t have good arch support.  The added arches work great and are adjustable so I can get the amount of arch support I need!

Dr. Scholl’s has a new Facebook Page where you can find info on products, pain, treatment options, and even coupons.  “Yay!” about coupons.  So many of us are using coupons nowadays.  Just go to “Challenge” on their Facebook site.

* Dr. Scholl’s supplied me with three pairs of arches for review.  However, I was not compensated monetarily for this article and review.  The review is strictly my opinion.

Having Your Own Business

When you have your own business, you have to think of everything from advertising to exit signs.  There are the regular monthly expenses such as rent, utilities, and insurance, of course, but then there are all the little details that can add up.

When we had our business years ago, we needed display cases and were fortunate enough to get them from a jewelry store going out of business.  But then we also needed a cash register which we had to buy new, so that was a considerable expense.

If you are thinking of starting your own business, do some brainstorming.  I would suggest making a comprehensive list of everything you will need.  Then check around for the best prices!
