Cute Baby Clothes

Our daughter dresses our new grandbaby, Baby J,  in such cute baby clothes.   Recently she dressed him in little blue jeans and a plaid button-up shirt.  He looked adorable!  And he has cute little sleepers and onsies which make him look so cuddly to hold.   Our son-in-law has a video game with an electric guitar that he enjoys playing after a long day at work, so she bought a cool T-shirt for Baby J that says “Rock Star.”  It is just too cute for words!   It’s always fun to see what cute baby clothes Baby J will have on next!

Insurance is a Must Have

Insurance premiums are so high, but people need insurance.  There are many types.  We have health insurance, homeowners insurance, flood insurance, car insurance and life insurance.  Some people have even more than that.   We haven’t had a major illness, but without health insurance, skyrocketing medical costs could bankrupt us.   We’ve had to use our homeowners insurance twice, once when a horrific hail storm came through and we had to get a new roof.   The other time was when straightline winds (several locals sited funnel clouds but on TV they said it was straightline winds) blew two huge 60 year old trees over on top of our house.  That created a hole in our daughter’s walk-in closet.  You could stand in her closet and look straight up and see the sky.  So we definitely needed insurance in those two instances.  But the thing about insurance is that it’s so expensive.  That’s why it’s important to find the best price.  One place to check is key man insurance.  Insurance is one thing you don’t want to be without when you need it!

Bath Time for Baby

Why is it so neat to give a new baby a bath? I guess because everything is so new and the first things that the baby does or experiences are special. When our grandson had his first bath recently, our daughter and s-i-l bathed “Baby J” while I took pictures. And I shared with them what I did when our son was a baby: put a washcloth in the strategic area so you don’t get sprayed! LOL 🙂 “Baby J” enjoyed his bath and it was a good experience for him.

When babies get older and you have a lot of bath toys, The Mommy Blogger has a great idea: Put the toys in a plastic basket so the water can drain out the bottom. That way the toys don’t get slimy. And I don’t know anybody who likes yuchy, slimy bath toys. Visit the Mommy Blogger to get more great ideas.

Computers are Great!

Computers are one of the greatest inventions and make work so much easier.  They are great for communication, also, as people can communicate as often as they want or as necessary.   To be honest, I didn’t use computers much until our daughter went off to college.  Before then, I’d just tell her, my husband or our son what I needed on the computer and they would do it for me.  (I wasn’t spoiled, was I?  LOL)  But after our daughter was gone to college , I quickly learned how absolutely wonderful email was.  We would email each other on almost a daily basis and still do to this day even though she’s been out of college for four years.

But just as computers are so wonderful to use, they can be equally frustrating when they’re not working like they should or like we want them to.  Sometimes fixing the problem is simple and sometimes it takes getting outside help (for me…my husband) to fix the problem.  One thing that’s important is having enough memory to run several programs.   Some people need IBM memory, but whatever kind you need, be sure you have plenty of it.  That’s one thing I have learned about computers.  🙂

Running Out of Gas

If you’ve ever run out of gas before, then you know what a hassle it is. It usually takes running out of gas only once or twice to cause a person to make sure they always have gas in the car. I remember when I ran out of gas many years ago when our daughter was a toddler. I was taking a short cut through the country to get to my parents’ house. There weren’t many houses around, I think only two. But there was a significant amount of traffic on that road, either local or others taking a short-cut too. I went up to one house to call my parents (no cell phones back then). I was blessed to go to a home with really nice people, and the man who lived there was the grandfatherly type. He gave me a sweet lecture about how I should always check my gas tank, and it made an impression on me. It would be nice, though, to have a transfer tank so that wouldn’t happen again. 🙂

Our Chrysler Mini-Van

Our favorite mini-van that we’ve owned was a Chrysler/Plymouth Grand Voyager. They don’t make those anymore, but they sure were good mini-vans. They were comfortable and great for long trips. Now we have a Dodge Caravan which is a great mini-van but not quite as good as our Voyager. The Voyager got better in-town mileage and had a better cruise control on it. One thing that bothers us on the Caravan is that when we’re listening to a CD and we make a sharp turn, the CD will skip. Now that shouldn’t happen! I don’t think that would happen on a Chrysler mini-van. If you have a Chrysler and are wanting to replace some things, you might check out Chrysler 300 accessories.

Dole Recalls Bagged Salad

Dole has once again recalled bagged salad. This time it’s “Dole’s Hearts Delight.” The recall affects these nine states: Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. It also affects parts of Canada: Ontario, Quebec and the Maritime Provinces. The date of the recall is on bags starting around Sept. 8.

Many people eat bagged salad regularly, over 50% or more. I know we eat bagged salad when I find it on sale or when I’m in a time crunch. It’s so important for people to eat dark leafy greens that it’s worth a little extra cost to make sure we’re eating them. But I definitely don’t want to risk getting sick! I won’t be buying Dole anytime soon, I know that for sure.

Website Clocks are Convenient

Have you noticed the neat website clock on my site? I really like having it on my home page. If I get busy working and lose track of time, it’s real handy to have the clock right there, easy to see and convenient. And if somebody is visiting my site, then they have a clock handy, too, just in case they need to keep track of the time. If you have a site, but don’t have a clock, then I recommend checking out my clock and see about getting one for your site. It’s free!

Baby Slings Are Great!

I wish baby slings had been available when my children were babies. Everyone I know now who uses one thinks they’re wonderful. Our daughter has one that she uses with our grandson. The great thing about using them with a newborn is that the baby is cradled up next to the mother (or daddy) and feels the warmth of her body.  The mother then has her hands free to do some things that require two hands such as typing or doing things around the house. Another neat thing about the slings is that they can be used for newborns all the way up to toddlers.   They come in all different kinds of fabric patterns so anyone should be able to find a color and pattern that they like.   If you know of someone that has a baby, tell them about baby slings. Or maybe you have a baby, maybe you’re expecting a baby, or maybe you need a baby shower gift.  A baby sling would make a great gift!

September – “Have a Plan” Month

I was waiting at an intersection not long ago and I noticed this billboard.  It had a fuzzy aerial view of a town.  Then it had an arrow pointing to a certain spot with the words, “You are here.  Do you know where your family is?”  My first reaction was, “Well, yeah, I know where my family is.”  But then I noticed in small print down at the very bottom of the billboard it said, “Have a Plan.  Go to READY.GOV”  Then I realized the point of the billboard was that in case of an emergency (such as a terrorist attack, etc.), you need to know where your family is in case things get crazy.  With the sixth anniversary of 9-11 just days away, I think it is good to have a plan.  When I taught first grade, we had a fire drill every few weeks.  We never had to use it for the real thing, but we were ready just in case.  So this is what I call “fire drill time.”  If something did happen, we would be in panic mode which is not an easy time to be thinking clearly.  That’s why it’s so important to think about things like this when our minds are clear.  I hope we never have to use our plans, but if we do then we’ll already have our plan in place.
