Backyard Pools

We have a large front yard but a small back yard.  I seriously doubt there would be room for a pool.  The only kind of pool we’ve ever had is a large kiddie pool, which was fun by the way.  It would be nice, though, to have a small pool that wasn’t very deep and was heated and surrounded by led pool lights.  Add in a lot of tropical plants and I’m sure it would be a relaxing place to unwind after a long day at school!

Charities

There are many charities out there from children’s homes to health related ones and those dealing with health issues such as triangle direct media.  With all of the good causes, everyone should be able to find something that tugs at their heartstrings.  The ones that tug at our hearts the most happen to be children’s homes and causes that help children.   But for someone else, it might be health related causes, especially if they’ve had a friend or loved one affected by a certain health issue.

Route 66

The famous Route 66 Highway was the first highway to be paved, and this occurred in 1938. (Can you imagine traveling on a dirt highway?) Over 74 years ago, a trend was started which is now the norm. There are a lot of interesting, history-filled stops along the way from Chicago to L.A. and a lot of interesting side trips as well.

Menu Plan Monday 1-14-13

I hope everyone is well! There’s been so much sickness going around and the flu is getting an early start from what I hear. It’s important for us to keep up our immunity during this time, so here are some important things we can do:

* Get plenty of rest!  Prioritize what really needs to be done and don’t lose sleep over things that can wait.

* Drink plenty of water.  Water helps to flush out toxins.

* Drink fresh brewed green tea for the antioxidants.

* Eat fresh fruits & veggies and lean meat such as chicken, fish, and turkey.

* Keep your hands away from your mouth and face.

* Wash hands with soap and warm water, especially when around sick germs.

Breakfast Pie

Here’s a recipe from that sounds good to make for a Saturday morning breakfast or to take to a brunch:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 5 large eggs, beaten
  • 8 ounces cottage cheese, small-curd
  • 4 ounces chopped green chiles, drained
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 cups Pepper Jack Cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup cooked ham, diced (or maybe cooked crumbled bacon)
  • 9-inch deep-dish pie crust

Combine eggs, flour, cottage cheese and green chiles.  Beat well at medium speed.  Stir in remaining ingredients and pour into pie crust.  Bake for 10 minutes at 400 degrees, then reduce to 350 degrees and bake 30 minutes.  Allow pie to set for a few minutes before serving.

Time is Flying By!

Can you believe Christmas has come and gone? Time is flying and it seems like the holiday season flew by in a flash.  Before we know it, it’ll be Valentine’s Day and then Easter.  Income taxes will be due after that and people will be looking at carsonthorncpa.com and other places for help with their taxes.  After that, it won’t be long until school is out and summer is here.  Hmmm, things are going too fast now, so let’s just go back to it being right after Christmas!

Holiday family road trips create such wonderful memories!   Our main car necessity is to have snacks and bottled water.  My husband teases us because we start getting into the snacks as soon as we get on the road, soon after we’ve left home.  What are your travel necessities?

We like to have comfortable seating and plenty of room for baggage.  Good gas mileage is a plus with the cost of gas these days.  And having a GPS comes in very handy!

Like I mentioned, we’ve created such wonderful memories from all our road trips!  There’s nothing like getting away from the day-to-day routine and spending quality time with family!
