Our daughter and son-in-law are in the process of buying a house, which means they have lots to do in the way of packing and then unpacking when they are in their new home. Well, it’s not new, but it’s new to them. Fortunately, they don’t have far to move, just across town. So they will be needing moving boxes, able bodied people to help them move, and perhaps box cutters for after they move. We hope to be able to go for a visit soon and help pack dishes and whatever else they need done which I’m sure will definitely include holding Baby J. 🙂
Musty Smelling Towels?
No one likes towels that smell musty. But sometimes people’s towels have a musty smell even after being washed. Here are some tips to keep towels smelling fresh from Steve Boorstein:
- Use the Hot Water cycle.
- Wash towels often because traces of dirt, etc, can help mildew spores to grow.
- Don’t crowd towels in the washer because they need plenty of room to agitate.
- Add a cleaning booster if a musty smell is really a problem.
- Dry towels soon after washing them.

Easy Turkey Enchiladas
This is what you need:
- olive oil
- 1 – 1 1/4 lbs of ground white turkey
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 small can red enchilada sauce
- 1 large can red enchilada sauce
- corn tortillas
- 2 % Milk Shredded Cheese (I used a mix of sharp cheddar & Monterey Jack cheeses)
Put a couple of tablespoons of olive oil in the pan and cook the turkey and onion. Then add 1 small can enchilada sauce and let simmer for 10-30 minutes, the longer the better because the seasoning can infuse the turkey. Using the large can of sauce, pour a thin layer of sauce on the bottom of a large casserole dish. Warm the tortillas in microwave and then fill with meat mixture and make one layer of enchiladas in the dish. (I can fit 12 in mine.) Then pour the large can of sauce over the enchiladas, top with cheese, and heat in the microwave until the enchiladas are nice & hot and the cheese is completely melted.
Lemony Turkey Rice Soup
I love homemade soup, especially during the winter. Elizabeth at Table4five.com also writes for the Precious Moments site and has a great soup recipe. It sounds so delicious and is called Lemony Turkey Rice Soup. Click here to see the recipe. Hero Sherman Jones & Spade High School’s Last Graduation
Some stories are so touching, and this story was just that…it touched my heart. We sometimes get so caught up in the busy lives we live, that it’s nice to stop and take a moment to hear about a true hero and also about the closeness in a small community. Age does not matter. In this story, an elderly man and high school graduates share a common bond. Click below to share their story:
Floral Canvas Tote
I just saw the cutest canvas tote on clearance for $9.49 at The Bargain Queen’s site. It would be perfect for spring which will be here before we know it. I use totes a lot, especially when we’re traveling. I have one tote that I bought in Hawaii which is one of my favorites. Our daughter gave me a black one a while back that has places to insert pictures. It will perfect to put pictures of family and especially Baby J. What grandma doesn’t like to show pictures of her grandbaby? I’m sure it will be one of my favorite totes, too, if not my very favorite! 🙂
Firefold for Computers & Networking
HDMI splitters, HDMI switches, adapters, couplers, “HDMI to HDMI,” and “HDMI to DVI” are products a lot of computer techs know about. I’m sure my husband and our son-in-law know what they are, too. But I don’t know anything about them. That’s why it’s so nice to have relatives who know so much about computers. I actually have three relatives who I see often or on a regular basis that help me with anything I need done on the computer. And that’s really nice since I’m on the computer every day. By the way, if you are needing any of the products mentioned above, then you might want to check out Firefold whose top priority is customer service.
A Few Things to Tell a Babysitter
This is good information to have written down for a babysitter:
- Where you will be or a list of the places you will be
- Phone numbers where you can be reached at all times
- Names and numbers of neighbors to contact in case of an emergency
- Allergies that a child has and what do to if necessary
- Where the food is located that will be used while you are gone (make it easy to fix)
- Schedule for the child/children
- Discipline policy / Time out *
- Bedtime rules
“Random Act of Kindness”
Our daughter had the neatest experience this week. She met with a friend of hers who was in town and is also a new mother. The two mothers and their babies had breakfast at Cracker Barrel. They asked a man and his daughter who were sitting nearby if they would take pictures of them with their babies. The man gladly took a picture for them, and as he was setting the camera down on the table, he picked up their bill and paid it. He was a perfect stranger, but yet he must have been touched by these two new mothers and their babies. What a kind man!
My Students
Many years ago when I first started teaching school, I taught an Early Childhood class in the morning. I taught the rest of the day in the Resource Room, working with K-4th graders in small groups. Two children in the Early Childhood class had cerebral palsy. They were three years old when they started the class and such sweet children to work with. They amazed me because even though they couldn’t talk much and required special seats so they could sit on the floor during group time, they understood so much. They had the cutest sense of humor and would smile the sweetest smiles when they thought something was funny. And they always loved everyone. I think I learned as much from them as they did from me. If you know a child who has cerebral palsy, then you probably know what I mean.
