Bargain on a KitchenAid Blender

I needed a new blender one time and decided I wanted a KitchenAid Blender. I checked around at all the stores and found that Bed, Bath & Beyond had the best deal. They had one that sold for $120 on sale for $100. Since I had a store coupon for 20% off one item, that brought the price down to $80. And there just happened to be a mail-in rebate for $20 to KitchenAid. So I ended up getting my blender for half price. It was a great bargain!

I use it the most to make smoothies or a fruitlatti, and it has no trouble with the ice. We use it almost daily during the summer so it really gets used a lot then. I feel blessed to get such a wonderful blender for such a wonderful price!

Teachers are “Pack Rats”

Yes, it’s true.  I’ll admit it…I’m a pack rat.  I taught school for nearly twenty years.  And even though I’m not teaching public school now, just do private tutoring, I still save stuff to this day.  What kind of stuff?  I have a whole stack of Fleischman’s Olive Oil Spread containers, just waiting to be made into some type of learning game.  I save bottle tops from our gallon jugs of distilled water for a beginning reading activity I do with one of my tutoring students.    So I’m in desparate need of storage solutions.  It would be great to have all of these things in one central location like a storage cabinet out in the garage.   I think like a teacher, so….once a pack rat, always a pack rat!

Use Listerine for Mosquitos?

I just read that one of the best ways to kill mosquitos is to use Listerine.  And even the store brand or the kind you get at any dollar store works just as well.   One person said they were having a deck party and mosquitos were everywhere.  A man sprayed the deck and yard with Listerine, and they were gone.  And supposedly, the effect lasts for a couple of days.  It’s safe to spray around the food table, too.  (Not on the food, though!  LOL)  Another person said he sprayed it around his door and window frames.  He said not to use it on wooden doors, just around the frame.  It doesn’t take much, and you can pour some in a 4 ounce spray bottle to use around the house.   He also said that he doesn’t leave home without it!

Ouch! That Hurts!

Many years ago, when I was teaching school, I had the unpleasant experience of losing a rather large filling.  It was not only painful having a gaping hole in my tooth, but I felt embarrassed that someone might see it in my mouth.  And, of course, I had to wait until I could get an appointment to have it taken care of.  How I wish I had had some Dentemp OS back then.  What a relief that would have been.  In sixty minutes, I could have had the hole filled until I was able to get in to see the dentist, and it would have prevented any pain or embarrassment.

In the course of time, I have had to have six crowns put on six different back teeth.  (My mother didn’t have me take very good care of my teeth when I was young.)   With that many crowns, I have a greater chance of losing one.  I am definitely going to remember Dentemp OS in case I ever do.  It will provide fast, temporary relief of pain and discomfort if I need it.  All I would have to do is remove it from its plastic vial and it would be ready to use with no mess or mixing.  And I would have several applications  in each vial so I wouldn’t have to worry about running out.  So not only would it replace a lost filling if I ever have that happen again, I could use it to temporarily cement a loose crown and then I could eat on it within 30 minutes after setting it.  It’s comforting to know that all products have been tested and fully comply with FDA Regulations for Oral Care.  So if I need temporary dental repair in the future, I know exactly what I’m going to get.   If you ever need to temporarily fix a loose crown or tooth with a lost filling, remember these facts about Dentemp OS:

Provides fast, temporary relief of pain and discomfort.

Just remove it from its plastic vial and it’s ready to use. No Mess!   No Mixing!  Several Applications in each vial. Replaces lost fillings and may be used to temporarily cement loose crowns. You can eat on it within 30 minutes of setting. All products have been tested and fully comply with FDA Regulations for Oral Care.

Beware of Spiders!

I don’t know about y’all, but we have been finding spider webs in our yard made by these huge spiders.  They are really creepy.  I was going to check the mail the other night and started out the front door.  I’m soooo glad I noticed this big spider on a spider web before I walked through it.  I immediately turned around and went out through the garage instead.  My hubby sprayed it with bug killer the next morning.  Then last night, we were taking out the trash.  This time we just happened to see a big web way up high, again with a huge spider in it.

I read an article recently about a park that has an unbelievable amount of the hugest spider webs I’ve ever seen.  They’re in huge clusters so that it looks like gigantic webs out of some science fiction or Halloween movie.  I don’t want our yard to become like that.  Bring out the bug spray again…fast!

Have You Tested for Dyslexia?

I helped a friend’s son once who was in second grade and having problems. He should have been in third grade. I went to his classroom and worked with him one or two mornings a week and some days we would work out in the hall. I could tell he was having trouble processing info, so one day I talked with a counselor and told her there was something wrong with his processing skills and asked if he had been tested for dyslexia. They had given him other tests before, sent him to another place for further testing, and  thought his problem was mostly behavioral. I explained to the counselor that I had worked for six years as a Resource Room teacher and knew something was wrong. I talked to his mom about the possibility of dyslexia, she requested dyslexia testing, they tested him, and the test showed that he was dyslexic. Now he goes to a dyslexia class every day.

Best Mortgage Rates

When we bought our house several years ago, we wanted the best mortgage rate available.  Anyone buying a house wants a mortgage loan that is competitive.  Mortgage loans, mortgage refinancing, and home equity loans help homeowners afford the home they’ve been wanting.   If someone has a high mortgage rate, then they seriously need to consider mortgage refinancing.  They can find out online what their mortgage rate would be.    A good mortgage company will help you find what’s best for you.

Recipe for Chewy Granola Snacks

Here’s a recipe for some yummy, healthy granola “bars” (well…actually they’re round) that we really like. They have a good amount of protein, fiber from the oatmeal and Spelt Flour, and healthy raisins. The dark chocolate chips satisfy my sweet tooth!

* 2 cups oats

* 1/2 cup Spelt Flour & 1/2 cup flour (or 1 cup flour)

* 1 cup protein powder (I use chocolate whey powder with protein isolates)

* 2/3 cup brown sugar

* 1/2 to 3/4 cup dark chocolate chips

* 1/2 cup raisins

* 1/4 cup canola oil

* 1 tsp cinnamon

* 1/2 tsp salt

* two 6 oz cartons of vanilla yogurt

Preheat the oven to 375F. Mix ingredients well. Spray cupcake pans with Crisco. (This recipe makes 24) Put a heaping tablespoon of batter in each cup and flatten out. Bake 12-15 minutes until edges are brown. Let cool.

Enjoy!

That Wall is Boring!

Do you have a wall in your home that you look at and think, “That wall is boring!”  I don’t now but I used too. Now I have trouble finding a place to hang something new. But if you have that problem, have you thought about adding a wall sconce, maybe two.  The type of lighting they provide adds warmth and interest to a wall.  They can accent something already on a particular wall, and maybe something that didn’t get noticed before will become a focal point due to the accent of the lighting.    Also, if you have a hallway or entryway that is lacking in interest, this type of lighting can make that area come alive.  No more boring walls!

Target Recalls Baby Rattles Again

Target is recalling baby rattles for the second time this year. The first recall of 460,000 plush baby rattles was January 18. These rattles had small pieces that could break off and become a choking hazzard. Yesterday they recalled 82,000 plush rattles with sports themes also because of a choking hazzard. These rattles were made in China. (recalls from China are beginning to sound like a broken record) There have been no reported injuries, but these rattles are filled with beads and can break open. In both recalls, there were no reports of choking occuring. I’m glad Target and other companies stay on top of things and recall items before an injury occurs.

Cute Baby Clothes

Our daughter dresses our new grandbaby, Baby J,  in such cute baby clothes.   Recently she dressed him in little blue jeans and a plaid button-up shirt.  He looked adorable!  And he has cute little sleepers and onsies which make him look so cuddly to hold.   Our son-in-law has a video game with an electric guitar that he enjoys playing after a long day at work, so she bought a cool T-shirt for Baby J that says “Rock Star.”  It is just too cute for words!   It’s always fun to see what cute baby clothes Baby J will have on next!
