Tools & Tool Storage – A Great Christmas Gift for the Guy in your Life

Hands on Tools has a great selection of tools, tool storage, shop supplies, and shop equipment. They offer an easy-to-use site, great prices, top-notch customer service, and the best UPS rates for the fastest shipping. I checked out their product descriptions, and they are thorough and give an abundance of details. It’s like being in the store having a salesperson explain the product to you, only you have the convenience of shopping online. They also offer gift certificates to make holiday shopping easy.

I Did It! I Went to “Black Friday” Sales for the First Time!

Well, I actually went to the super early Black Friday sales with our daughter and her friend, who has never been shopping early on Black Friday either. “C” was the only experienced one of the three of us. I got up at 3:30 a.m. (that is crazy!) and got ready. “C” and her friend went to Kohl’s first for the 4 a.m. opening so her friend could get a Kitchenaid Mixer on sale for $129 (regularly $250) plus a $40 Kohl’s gift card which made the mixer end up costing $89. That was definitely worth getting up for during the wee hours of the morning. Then they came and got me.

We got to Circuit City and the line was really long. It was fun talking in line, though, and the wait went by fast. Once the store opened at 5 a.m., we had a plan. “C” went to one side of the store, and her friend and I looked on the other side for the SanDisk SD Cards and Flash Drives for $7.99. We got our items, got in line, and then “C” joined us. We were fast and efficient.

After that, we headed for Super-Target which opened at 6 a.m. We stood in line there for 30 minutes, and it was colder there due to wind chill. I found a new ThermaCare heating pad in my coat pocket, so I opened it up so we could use it to warm our hands. We laughed about how it was like our little campfire and we were huddled around it to keep our hands warm. (and yes, we did all have on gloves) We got into Target and, again, were fast and efficient in finding everything. I was so excited, though, because I found one thing that wasn’t even on sale. It’s something I’ve been looking for and finally found: Pat the Bunny book for Baby J.( Our daughter, “C”, had that very same book when she was a baby, her brother used it when he was a baby, and I wanted our grandson to have it.)

After Target, we went to Old Navy where “C” found the cutest little long-sleeved onsie for Baby J that says, “Baby’s First Christmas” on it plus a darling little hat for him. Both were items that she has been wanting but couldn’t find where they live.

We ended our shopping excursion driving through Chick-Fil-A’s drive-through to get Breakfast Chicken Mini’s and their special where you buy a $20 Chick-Fil-A gift card and receive their $5 calendar/with coupons for free.

So…would I do this again? Yes, but only if my daughter came and picked me up! LOL (I would not go by myself!) We had a very positive experience and did not encounter any rude people. Everyone waited their turn. We got a lot of great bargains, but the best part was just the simple fun of being together…”together on a mission” as my daughter would say. 🙂

Happy Thanksgiving to my Readers

To all of you who read my blog, I hope that you have a very happy Thanksgiving, that you can spend it with family &/or friends, and that you remember all the blessings you have received and give thanks for them. I am so thankful for all my blessings…. my family and the new addition of our precious “Baby J,” my friends, our health, our home and everything we have, but most of all I am thankful for God and his love, my relationship with Him and with his son Jesus, and the peace I have as a result. I know that all of the good things in my life are from God and so I thank Him for everything, not only today but all during the year. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! 🙂

Spice-Rack: Ginger Helps Nausea

Do you ever feel nauseated from sinus drainage or maybe from taking medicine or a vitamin? Sometimes I will feel nauseated from taking a vitamin B or when I have sinus drainage. For some people, motion sickness is a real problem when they travel. And for the expectant mommy-to-be, morning sickness can be a regular daily experience. Well, just look in your spice rack and grab the ginger. I’ve read you can make tea with it using 1 tsp. of ginger with 1 cup boiling water, steep for 10 minutes, strain, and then drink. (I would need sweetener.) I have not tried the tea, but we do keep Ginger Snaps around most of the time. I can eat a couple of those and it really helps my nausea go away.

Microwave Ovens from P.C. Richard & Son

I use my microwave oven every day. In fact, I use it several times a day. I use it to make tea, to cook, to heat up left-overs, and to defrost things. I’m actually defrosting frozen lasagna I made a couple of weeks ago as I type.

If you’re looking to buy a microwave, P. C. Richard & Son has been serving people for nearly one hundred years, 98 years to be exact. Their motto is honesty, integrity, and reliability. They have microwave ovens, all well as all kinds of appliances including designer appliances, electronics, and vacuums. They even have home office items and video games. So check out their prices and see if you can save money.

Ways to Use Left-Over Turkey

If you’re looking for some different ways to use left-over turkey, I’ve seen turkey enchiladas, turkey tacos, turkey pita tacos, turkey taco salad, and turkey taco soup. Of course, there’s the traditional turkey pot pie and turkey salad which are always good. My favorite when I was growing up was my mother’s and grandmother’s turkey salad. They would put apples, celery, pecans or walnuts, mayonaise, salt, and pepper in it. It was so yummy, either in a sandwich or just by itself. My mouth is actually watering right now…I sure wish I had some. 🙂

Easy Sweet Potato Casserole

If you’re short on time &/or energy, this sounds like a great recipe. My mother used to use canned sweet potatoes, and she would make delicious mashed sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top. I guess you could put marshmallows on top of this instead of the brown sugar mixture if you preferred. Here’s the easy recipe from Southern Living, November 2006 by Jean Ellard, Birmingham, Alabama.

  1. 3 (40-oz.) cans cut sweet potatoes, drain the syrup
  2. 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  3. 1/2 cup butter, softened
  4. 1/2 cup milk
  5. 2 large eggs
  6. 1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla extract
  7. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  8. 1 1/4 cups firmly packed brown sugar
  9. 1 1/4 cups finely chopped pecans
  10. 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  11. 1/3 cup butter, melted

Combine first 7 ingredients and beat at medium speed until smooth. Spoon into lightly greased 9 x 13 dish. Mix last 4 ingredients and sprinkle evenly on top of sweet potato mixture. Bake at 350 for 40-45 minutes.
