Four Foods On Friday #26 questions

#1. When going out to dinner what items do your order? Appetizers, soup, salad, dinner, dessert.

Sometimes we order an appetizer to share. I usually order a dinner that comes with a salad. We rarely order dessert, but if we do, we get one piece and split it .

#2. How predictable are you when eating out? Do you usually order a meal that you’ve had before or do you like to try new things?

I am very predictable. Every once in a while, I’ll try something new.

#3. When eating at a restaurant, what beverage do you like to order with your meal?

Usually water with lemon, but sometimes I order iced tea with lemon.

#4. Name a meal that you ate at a restaurant that you liked so much you tried to recreate it, as well as the name of the restaurant and the recipe.

I have tried to recreate several dishes in the past, but artichoke spinach dip is probably the main thing. Here’s a recipe a friend of mine gave me for Olive Garden’s Artichoke Spinach Dip. It’s really good, but I’m still trying to make the dip closer to what we’ve had at Charleston’s.

Olive Garden’s Artichoke-Spinach Dip

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chopped artichoke hearts
  • 1/2 cup frozen chopped spinach
  • 8 ounces sour cream cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (I left these out the second time I made it- my family likes it better that way)
  • dash ground pepper

Directions:

Cook the spinach and artichoke hearts in a cup of water for about 10 minutes or until tender. Drain.

Heat the cream cheese in a small bowl in the microwave for 1 minute. Add the spinach mixture and stir well.

Add the Parmesan cheese, salt, garlic powder, and pepper. Mix well.

Serve with crackers or toasted bread strips for dipping. What we like best is to serve with Tostitos Gold Chips. They’re small triangular chips that are thicker and don’t break when dipping into a thick dip. I think that’s what they’re called. I know it has “gold” in the name. 🙂

When Eating Out…

I heard something recently on the radio (KLTY) that makes a lot of sense for eating healthy foods & not gaining weight. When eating out, try to stay away from the 4 “C’s” which are:

  1. Crispy
  2. Crunchy (fried food crunchy)
  3. Creamy
  4. Cheesy

With these types of foods, a red flag goes up for added saturated fat (depending on the type of fat used) plus calories!

Fun Tote Bags

Meg from The Bargain Queen has some really cute tote bags at cheap prices. Meg and I both like totes, and each of us has several tote bags. They’re great for trips and vacations! In fact, I usually take two or three totes on every trip. Check out these fun shopping totes, priced cheap from $10.49 to $14.99.

Health Solutions

When it comes to things that relate to our health, we want what’s best. I have an excellent doctor, and I trust that she’s doing what is best for me. She’s just that kind of doctor. In fact, she prescribed natural compounded progesterone for me that she takes herself. It’s important to me to have medicines and prescriptions that are as close to what my body can actually utilize as possible and do so in a safe and efficient manner. A clinical laboratory service that has that standard is important.

Custom Grilles for Cars & Trucks

Wood Dash Experts, Inc., has a good selection of new chrome wire mesh grilles in their line of custom grilles. These custom billet grilles are an upgrade from the standard ones. If the guy in your life has a Chevy, he might like to have a Chevy grille for his car or truck. And with Father’s Day just a few weeks away, maybe this would be a good gift idea! Check out this new concept in grilles which Wood Dash Experts carries for most cars, trucks, and also SUVs.

Lighting Within the Home

Lighting is important in a room to create the effect you want. In our living room, or main room as some people would call it, we have two large windows. This room flows into the dining area where we have a bay window along the same wall, so we have a lot of outside lighting during the day. In the evening, we use several lamps which is sufficient for us.

When people need additional lighting, they may consider adding a lamp and maybe a wall sconce. When planning lighting for a particular room, it’s important to remember all the different uses for that room and plan accordingly.

For the Love of Horses…Equestrian Clothing

equestrian-pic-4-08-resized.jpgI know someone who has a horse, and she is so faithful to go to the stables daily to care for it. Her love of horses is contagious, and she is teaching a two-year-old girl how to ride horses. This little girl just happens to be our daughter’s close friend’s little girl. Now this petite, feminine, little blonde haired two-year-old has developed a love for horses. She was scared of them at first, but now she absolutely adores thems! Her mom needs to check out equestrian clothing! Wouldn’t that be cute to see this tiny little girl dressed in riding apparel!

5 Pounds in 5 Weeks, Week 3

🙁 I didn’t lose a pound this week, and I think maybe it’s because I didn’t walk all week until yesterday. Also, I only ate one grapefruit instead of two or three. Hmm…I really don’t know for sure why I didn’t lose a pound, but I’m just glad I didn’t gain one.

These are some of the reasons I’m wanting to lose weight:

  • Extra fat stores estrogen, and I’m already higher in estrogen than progesterone.
  • Hormone imbalance affects so many different things including  seasonal allergies. So I really want to get rid of extra fat!
  • My clothes don’t fit as well. Just losing 5 pounds makes a difference in the way they fit.
  • I want to have enough self-control to balance what I eat in a healthy way. I feel better when I eat healthy which means eating more fresh, raw veggies & fruits, lean protein, and greatly limiting my sugar and processed carbs intake (that’s the hard part)!
