Our daughter told me about a great website where you can find locally grown organic food. That’s great to be able to find a place where you can get produce that is not only locally grown which means it’s fresher, but that’s organic, too, which is what I’m trying to buy as much as I can. I’m seeing more and more organic produce in the grocery stores now, and the main stores I buy organic are at Central Market, Krogers, and Brookshires. I did a search on the localharvest.org with my zip code and found additional places to buy organic produce now. I’m thrilled!

Have You Heard of The Pig Next Door?
I have not heard of The Pig Next Door but apparently they have a bacon of the month club through which they deliver high-quality, premium bacon. Their bacon is made the traditional, old-fashioned way which takes longer to make and results in delicous bacon with “serious flavor.” Sounds like this might make a good Christmas present for those friends and relatives who really likes bacon.
Holidays Will Be Here Soon
I can’t believe how fast this past year has flown by. It will be Thanksgiving before we know it, and then Christmas will be just around the corner. Along with both holidays comes all the delicious foods and delicious family recipes. Some people will be taking diet pills because of all that good food. The best thing is being with family and remembering the reason for these holidays!
How to Care for Cut Flowers
I got these directions with some flowers one time, and I think these are good so I’ll share with you:
- Start with a clean vase. (I clean my clear vases in the dishwasher. If I can’t do that, then I’ll soak the inside of the vase with white vinegar and water. Martha Stewart said one time that flower vases should be clean enough to drink out of – that’s before the flowers are added.)
- Use warm water to fill the vase.
- Add flower food to the water.
- The next part is real important. Remove all foliage below the water level. (Otherwise, the leaves will start to rot in the water and the flowers won’t last as long.)
- Recut the stems on an angle.
- Place flowers in vase and enjoy!
- For long lasting flowers, change the water and recut the stems daily.
Pimiento “Cheese” Spread
Mix these ingredients in a blender until blended:
- 2 cups lowfat cottage cheese
- 1 3-ounce jar pimientos, drained
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
Serve on bread for mini-sandwiches, as a spread for crackers, or stuff celery with it.
This has a good amount of protein in it and is lower in fat than regular pimiento cheese spread. With the holidays just around the corner, this is a healthy appetizer.
Four Foods On Friday 49
#1. Turnips. Love em or leave em?
It’s been years since I’ve had them, but they’re OK, just not one of my favorites. I remember my mother really liked them a lot.
#2. What’s your favorite roasted dish?
Roasted chicken or turkey.
#3. Salsa. What kind do you like?
We buy Joe T. Garcia Salsa most of the time. What’s really good is to add fresh chopped tomato and chopped onion to the salsa.
#4. Share directions on how to make your favorite quick meal, meaning start to finish in about 30 minutes or less.
We really like Chicken Tortilla Soup, and it’s quick and easy. In fact, I made it last night with canned chicken breast and canned chicken broth, left out the canned tomatoes, though. I cut up the onion and let it cook in the broth and canned chicken to begin with, then added everything else. It’s nourishing and satisfying for a meal.
Family Who Received Home Theater

One time we were watching Extreme Home Makeover on a Sunday night. It was really a neat episode because this family had a daughter with a rare disease, and she couldn’t go outside and do things that other kids could do like go to school or to the movies. The house that was built for this family was built especially to handle the aspects of her disease, and the really cool thing is that it had a home theater in the basement with theater seating. Her brother was so loyal to her that he rarely did anything without his sister, so it was special that this family could “go to the movies” like other kids.
Finally Lost Five Pounds!
It’s been an effort to lose weight this year. Hormones have definitely been a factor in making it hard to lose! I’ve finally lost five pounds, but it took a lot longer than planned. I didn’t give up, though, and kept on course. One thing that has made a difference is that I’ve been able to walk more without much pain. I’m also more careful about my diet and just try to eat healthy, still allowing myself treats now and then. Some people use a diet pill to aid them in their weight loss, but that should only be used after consulting a physician first.
Insurance For a New Household
A couple has a lot to do when they get married such as getting insurance. They have to make sure they have health insurance for both of them, get quotes for car insurance so they can get the best deal, and get renter’s insurance if they are renting or homeowner’s insurance if they are buying their home. And there’s also life insurance quotes
to get. There’s a lot to do insurance-wise when setting up a household!
A Wonderful Weekend With Family
This has been such a busy week that I’m just now writing about the wonderful weekend we had with our daughter, son-in-law, and Baby J celebrating our daugher’s 27th birthday. It was fun watching Baby J, who is 13 months old, walking all over the place…and fast. He jabbered a lot and was very expressive, had a sense of humor, and hugged an Earnie doll (from Sesame Street). He’s such a cutie! One special time that we had together (teachers will appreciate this) was when he was looking at some baby books I put out for him. He picked up a book that my parents (both have passed away) gave our daughter 27 years ago. So Jackson picked up his mommy’s baby book about animals, turned the book until he could open it the correct way, looked at the first page, and then came over to Grandma (me) and wanted up in my lap so we could read the book. That was such a precious moment that I hope I never forget!
