Starbuck’s Frappuccinos Half-Price this Friday, 3-5 PM

For those of you who enjoy a cold Frappuccino from Starbucks on a warm day, be sure to note that this Friday, May 7th, you’ll be able to get one half-price between 3 & 5 p.m.  Starbucks will be doing this again on May 16th.

I remember my first Frappuccino many years ago when our daughter was getting her hair cut (during her college years) .  Christi’s friend, Amber, and I didn’t want to wait at the Salon, so we went to a nearby Starbucks where Amber quickly  recommended a Creme Caramel Frappuccino.  It was so delicious!!  And I imagine it had zero calories.  (notice I said “imagine”)   I haven’t had very many of them because they really aren’t that healthy, but every once in a while I will have one for a special treat!

Nursing Uniforms

Nowadays, nursing scrubs are stylish and come in many different colors and styles, and they are cute enough to wear out running errands after work.   It would be easy to have a cute scrubs outfit to wear each day for two weeks without wearing the same one twice.  But with today’s economy that might be hard for some people to do.   However, Nursing Uniforms has good prices on their uniforms, and they offer free shipping on orders over $100.   And not only do they have the largest selection of uniforms online which makes them a “superstore,”  but they carry quality merchandise.  The owners come from medical professional families, and so they know what’s durable, affordable, and stylish at the same time.  They carry brands such as Medcouture, Katherine Heigl, Stat Wear, Peaches Uniforms, and Izzy Scrubs.   Not only do they carry scrubs, but they also have a nice selection of lab coats in various styles.

Whenever I order something online, I look to make sure that the company has good customer service and a money back guarantee.  They do!  They state that they will answer inquiries within 24 hours, and they have a 30-day satisfaction money back guarantee.  So not only can you shop anytime 24-7, but you can get style, quality and durability with a money back guarantee if not satisfied.

Menu Plan Monday: 5-3-10

I am really getting in a rut.   Didn’t feel good over the weekend and was dragging at work this morning.  Felt better after lunch, but energy level has been low all day.  So…I stopped and picked up a rotisserie chicken at the grocery deli.   We really like them a lot, as you can tell since we’ve had them now for three weeks in a row.  It’s a great deal for $5 since we can make three meals out of it.  And it’s already cooked!!   So here goes our menu:

Monday Rotisserie chicken with left-over spinach casserole from yesterday, steamed broccoli (I know it’s lots of green veggies but I wanted to use the broccoli before it started turning light green)

Tuesday Left-over rotisserie chicken with corn and lima beans (frozen veggies)

Wednesday Homemade soup using the rest of the chicken.  It will be a spur-of-the-moment recipe.

Thursday Homemade Chef Salad

Friday Not cooking tonight!

Saturday I’m thinking maybe Easy Cheesy Beef Enchiladas and refried beans.

Cinco de Mayo Recipes Including Easy Cheesy Beef Enchiladas plus Chipotle Recipes

Pictured above:  Easy Cheesy Beef Enchiladas

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound lean ground beef  (hormone free, if possible)
  • 1/2 – 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1  14-ounce (medium-size) can Old El Paso Enchilada Sauce, Medium Red (or if you like lots of sauce like us, then 1 large can or 2 small cans)
  • 1 package corn tortillas
  • 1 package shredded sharp cheddar cheese, reduced fat

Directions:

Cook chopped onion and ground beef until no pink is left in the meat.  Warm tortillas either briefly in the microwave (this can be done by inverting a dinner plate on top of another one to make a “tortilla warmer”) or in a skillet so they will roll without breaking.  Place ground beef/onion mixture in a line down the middle of a tortilla and spoon a couple of tablespoons of enchilada sauce over it.  Roll to make tortilla and place in casserole dish.  Repeat until all the meat mixture is used up.  Pour remaining sauce evenly over tortillas and top with shredded cheese.  Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.

Different Forms of Advertising

We know some people who work in advertising, and they handle different forms of advertising from newspapers, brochures, and pamphlets to ads on the glass front of a business.  They might handle some insurance advertising from time to time as they deal with different types of businesses.  We have done some of our own advertising in the form of flyers and making our own business cards.   And a lot of us have probably done simple advertising in the form of a garage sale sign, or maybe as a child made a sign to advertise a lemonade stand.   Whatever the form of advertising, it serves a purpose to communicate with people.

Hey, It’s Me…Finally

Finally after blogging for over two and a half years, I’m putting a picture of myself on Healthy Home Blog.  For a long time, it was because of the privacy issue.  Then for a while it was because I didn’t have any pictures of me by myself.   Recently, though, because of my daughter putting pictures of herself, our s-i-l, and our young grandsons on her blog and because of Lori’s post from a Cowboy’s Wife, I’ve decided that I really should put pictures on here to make it more personable.  Our son took a picture of me recently that I decided to post.  It’s pretty much how I look half of the time.  Sometimes I will wear my hear down, but I like to pull it back, twist it and put it up in a clip when the weather gets warm (or I’m having a bad hair day).

Homemade Cookies!

Let me start by saying that I love good homemade cookies!  The past few weeks, I have been substitute teaching just about every day.   One thing I like about where I’m subbing now is that the cafeteria ladies make homemade cookies for the teachers several days a week.  That is one thing that’s really hard for me to pass up…a delicious homemade cookie!  I haven’t gained weight that I know of so far, so I won’t need to check out www.fatburnerreview.org But I may need to start exercising more if I eat one (notice I just eat one) cookie three days a week or so!

I’ve also really enjoyed subbing the past couple of months because I’ve been primarily working with special ed students.  When I first began teaching many years ago, I taught for six years in special ed  before I taught first grade for eleven years and a first/second bridge class for two years.  I would love to get back into teaching special ed.  And it’s not just so I can have a homemade cookie every day.  (smile)

Note:  These are not cookies from school.  These were from Central Market where we bought 1/2 dozen Ginger Snaps.

Menu Plan Monday & Recipe for Reduced-Fat Pizza

When the week is so busy from substitute teaching, tutoring at my home, and working on posts, etc, then I tend to revert to the easy route which involves buying a rotisserie chicken.  They’re really good, and it’s so easy to add our favorite frozen veggies and/or a salad.  And…when it’s just me and my husband, it will last for three meals!

Monday Rotisserie chicken with salad and a veggie

Tuesday Left-over rotisserie chicken with two frozen veggies

Wednesday Finish rotisserie chicken by making Rotisserie Chicken Soup out of it.

Thursday Reduced-Fat Pizza

INGREDIENTS:

  • Pillsbury Thin Crust Pizza Dough
  • Ragu Traditional Pizza Sauce
  • Sargento Reduced Fat 4 Cheese Italian
  • Pepperoni (used sparingly)
  • Sliced Mushrooms
  • Green Olives, cut in half
  • Chopped Onion

DIRECTIONS:

Oil cookie sheet with olive oil and sprinkle with corn meal.  Preheat cookie sheet while preheating oven to temperature in pizza dough directions.  (I think it’s 400 degrees).   Take cookie sheet out of oven and carefully spread dough on hot cookie sheet, top with sauce, cheese and favorite toppings.  Bake according to directions.

Friday Left-over pizza with a salad

Sunday Thoughts: Jesus & A Dear Friend

This is an especially touching event in the life of Jesus and one of his dear friends.   It warms my heart to read about how Jesus (God’s only Son) lived on this earth in a human body just like ours and experienced the same things we experience such as love and grief.   He had a dear friend named Lazarus who had two sisters, Mary and Martha.  Jesus loved this family very much, like we love good friends who are like family to us.  Well,  Lazarus died and the Bible tells us that Jesus cried with Mary and others.

When a friend of mine died from cancer leaving behind a three year old daughter and two sons, the oldest son being 13 and the age of our daughter at the time, it was really sad.   She and I would have our best visits during swimming lessons for our kids, and I really missed her.   Jesus understood my grief and sadness because he lost a friend, as told to us in the Bible in the book of  John, chapter 11:

2Mary went to where Jesus was. Then as soon as she saw him, she knelt at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

33When Jesus saw that Mary and the people with her were crying, he was terribly upset 34and asked, “Where have you put his body?”

They replied, “Lord, come and you will see.”

35Jesus started crying, 36and the people said, “See how much he loved Lazarus.

Note:  Scripture from BibleGateway.com using the Contemporary English Version  (usually I use the NIV Version)

This is not the end of the story!    When Jesus went to the place where Lazarus was buried, Martha told Jesus that Lazarus had been dead for four days and his body had started to smell.   Jesus told Martha, “Didn’t I tell you that if you had faith, you would see the glory of God?”  And so Jesus called to Lazarus, and Lazarus walked out of the burial cave with the burial strips of cloth still on his body.  Maybe some of the people there were freaking out, we don’t know.  But those who had faith knew the power of God.

The people at that event in history definitely saw the glory of God!  And what does this mean for us today?  Jesus sympathizes with us when someone we love dies.  He’s been there!  He knows the sorrow and the pain of losing someone dear.  It also means that we live in a world where God is in control.  And even though he is the creator of the world and whole universe and everything in existence, He is also the God who loves us and cares about each one of us when we experience sorrow or sadness.  Jesus told Martha, “…if you have faith,”  and if we have faith then we will see God working in our lives!

Four Foods On Friday 113

From Val's Kitchen

.

Val says, “What can you make with eggs, meat or poultry, vegetables and a starch?   Her answer:  This is a lame one but the only one that is coming to mind.  I’m thinking casseroles but only coming up with breakfast. So my answer is an omelet with meat and veggies in it, with hash browns on the side.

My answer would be Turkey Meatballs & Pasta Sauce:

  • 16 ounce package of ground turkey
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/3 cup crushed Wheaties or Grape Nuts (or cracker crumbs)
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon rosemary
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 jar Chunky Ragu Sauce with veggies
  • Pasta

Mix well.  Form 12 meatballs.  Preheat large skillet on medium with olive oil, place meatballs in skillet and cook COVERED for 12-15 minutes, turn and cook 5 more minutes.  Serve over pasta with Ragu Sauce.

Vacations & Cruises

This past winter passed by quickly, and now it’s already spring.  Soon it will be summer and time to plan vacations.  Some people might be planning european river cruises, but for us it will be a simple vacation driving somewhere.  Years ago, we took some nice vacations  flying to Disney World and another year flying to Hawaii when our daughter graduated from high school.  But with the economy the way it is, I will be happy just to get away for a weekend.
