Water Conservation Tips

With water bills usually being higher during the summer months due to watering the grass and flowers, filling up kiddie swimming pools, and kids being home from school, etc, many people are looking for ways to conserve water.

Here are a few tips:

  • Install aerators in the sink faucets.  These can reduce your sink water consumption by up to 50%.
  • Wash only full loads of dishes in the dishwasher.
  • Wash only full loads of clothes in the clothes washer.  This not only saves water but also energy!
  • Install low-flow shower heads and limit showers to 5 minutes  (I’ll be doing well if I limit mine to 15 minutes…lol)
  • Turn the water off while brushing teeth.  (A lot of water is wasted here!)
  • Turn the water off while shaving.
  • Check out toilet leaks and repair as soon as possible.
  • A dripping faucet can waste nearly 2 gallons of water per HOUR!  Repair immediately!

All Kinds of Coffee Tables

It’s true that coffee tables come in all sizes, shapes, and colors.  When our son was real little, we had a big sturdy coffee table that he could play on and we could even sit on.  We moved when he was nearly three and got rid of that coffee table.  For the longest time, we didn’t even have a coffee table, but several years ago we decided that we were ready to have a coffee table again.  This time I wanted something that was not a traditional coffee table.  I really like what we chose.  I don’t think we’ll ever go back to not having a coffee table again.  It’s too handy and convenient to have one!

Buying Our Home

We have lived in our house for 14 years now.  Wow, how fast time goes by!  I remember what all we had to do to buy our house.  We had to check out mortgage lenders to find the best one, and our realtor was very helpful.  I remember we had a mountain of paper work to sign at the closing, but it went surprisingly fast.  And what I remember most was when we first walked into our house after the closing, our realtor had left a beautifully wrapped little present to welcome us into our home.  That was sweet!

What’s All This Hooked Up To Our TV?

We have so many things hooked up to our main TV in the living room.  We have Tivo, a DVD player, a VHS player (yes…we still have it because we have so many movies that are VHS tapes, including lots of children’s videos that will be great for Baby J when he’s older), and also the Wii.  It’s great having a Video Switch Box to make it easy to switch from one to the other.  HDMI switches are a wonderful invention!

Globe Life: Term Life Insurance

$1 buys the first month of adult term life insurance through Globe Life.  After that, the monthly rates are as low as $3.27 for adults.  If you do not have insurance, I strongly recommend checking into term life insurance.  I’ve heard of how hard it is for families when tragedy occurs and the family does not have it.  In that situation, it really does make a difference!

Kitchen shears!
#4. Share a time saving tip.

I use my kitchen shears to cut up chicken breast into chicken nuggets.

This Award is Much Appreciated!

My thanks to Rebecca at Creating Wealth and Health for giving me this award.  Her blog has some great information on nutrition, organics, herbs, and other things.  The award comes from the “Arte y Pico” blog.

Now I’m supposed to pass on this award and here are the rules:

1) Pick five (5) blogs that you consider deserve this award for their creativity, design, interesting material, and also for contributing to the blogging community, no matter what language.

2) Each award has to have the name of the author and also a link to his or her blog to be visited by everyone.

3) Each award winner has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that has given her or him the award itself.

4) Award-winner and the one who has given the prize have to show the link of “Arte y Pico” blog, so everyone will know the origin of this award which is here

OK, now I get to choose five blogs.  There were several that I wanted to choose, but I narrowed it down to five.  I tried to choose blogs that have not received the award, and here they are in alphabetical order:

Mari at A Housewife’s Journal

A Second Cup

Val at Fun, Crafts and Recipes

Jude at The Beauty Denominator

Angie at Vibrant Healthy U

(Like I mentioned, I wish I could have chosen more!)

Air Travel Discounts

My mother-in-law has been back home for three weeks now from her trip to Texas to visit us.  I wish she were close so we could go shopping, sit on the porch and drink coffee or tea and talk, or go out for lunch and talk in person.  Being over 800 miles away makes it impossible to do that on the spur of the moment.   She was able to come visit us because my husband found a great deal on airline tickets.

If you’re planning on booking a flight, check out the flight deals at Sherman’s Travel.   Compare their air travel discounts!

Business Transactions From Our Computers

It’s amazing how many business transactions we can carry on in the privacy of our own homes, wearing our pajamas if we want to.  We can complete banking and credit card transactions, shop online and buy just about any type of merchandise, and in some places order groceries and have them delivered.  People can buy stock from companies such as Transworld Futures, an online futures broker.   Most people probably didn’t realize twenty years ago what all we would be able to do on the computer in the future.  I know I didn’t!
