Bath Time for Baby

Why is it so neat to give a new baby a bath? I guess because everything is so new and the first things that the baby does or experiences are special. When our grandson had his first bath recently, our daughter and s-i-l bathed “Baby J” while I took pictures. And I shared with them what I did when our son was a baby: put a washcloth in the strategic area so you don’t get sprayed! LOL 🙂 “Baby J” enjoyed his bath and it was a good experience for him.

When babies get older and you have a lot of bath toys, The Mommy Blogger has a great idea: Put the toys in a plastic basket so the water can drain out the bottom. That way the toys don’t get slimy. And I don’t know anybody who likes yuchy, slimy bath toys. Visit the Mommy Blogger to get more great ideas.

Computers are Great!

Computers are one of the greatest inventions and make work so much easier.  They are great for communication, also, as people can communicate as often as they want or as necessary.   To be honest, I didn’t use computers much until our daughter went off to college.  Before then, I’d just tell her, my husband or our son what I needed on the computer and they would do it for me.  (I wasn’t spoiled, was I?  LOL)  But after our daughter was gone to college , I quickly learned how absolutely wonderful email was.  We would email each other on almost a daily basis and still do to this day even though she’s been out of college for four years.

But just as computers are so wonderful to use, they can be equally frustrating when they’re not working like they should or like we want them to.  Sometimes fixing the problem is simple and sometimes it takes getting outside help (for me…my husband) to fix the problem.  One thing that’s important is having enough memory to run several programs.   Some people need IBM memory, but whatever kind you need, be sure you have plenty of it.  That’s one thing I have learned about computers.  🙂

Online Radio Station: KLTY 94.9 – It’s Safe for the Whole Family

If you’re looking for a great radio station that’s safe for the whole family, then I recommend KLTY, 94.9 FM.  My family has listened to it for several years now.  And it’s music that teenagers like too.  I know a whole lot of teenagers that listen to it as well.  We’re fortunate to live in north central Texas where we can get this station on the radio.  But for those of you who cannot, you can receive it online over your computer.  They play a lot of music and don’t talk too much like some stations do.  And when they do talk, you don’t have to worry about your kids hearing some adult talk you don’t want them to hear.  In fact, I was listening to another station one time and I got so disgusted with the topic of their conversation which all of a sudden became “R” rated that I quickly changed the station.

Another thing about KLTY, if you’re feeling happy then you can just sing right along with the songs if you want to.  If you’re feeling down, their music has a way of making you feel better.  If you’re surrounded with a lot of negative things, this music is positive and inspiring.  It’s been great for me to listen to.  I listen to it while I’m driving and it keeps my thoughts positive and focused on what’s really the priority in my life.   So if you have a chance, try listening to this station.

By the way, it’s one of the top radio stations in the country and is listened to world-wide!   Just click here and look at the very top of their home page for the “Online Radio Player.”

Running Out of Gas

If you’ve ever run out of gas before, then you know what a hassle it is. It usually takes running out of gas only once or twice to cause a person to make sure they always have gas in the car. I remember when I ran out of gas many years ago when our daughter was a toddler. I was taking a short cut through the country to get to my parents’ house. There weren’t many houses around, I think only two. But there was a significant amount of traffic on that road, either local or others taking a short-cut too. I went up to one house to call my parents (no cell phones back then). I was blessed to go to a home with really nice people, and the man who lived there was the grandfatherly type. He gave me a sweet lecture about how I should always check my gas tank, and it made an impression on me. It would be nice, though, to have a transfer tank so that wouldn’t happen again. 🙂

Increase in Peanut Allergies

The number of people in our country who are allergic to peanuts is increasing.  There are 1 1/2 million people in the U.S. who are highly allergic to peanuts.  Often when people are allergic to peanuts they are allergic to other legumes as well, including soy.

One thing that may be adding to the rise in numbers of allergic people is the fact that roasting peanuts changes the protein structure and causes them to be harder to digest.  Food allergies can result in hives or breathing problems, can cause a person to be sick at their stomach or have stomach pain, or can cause severe problems.

I’m not allergic to peanuts, but I have had an allergic reaction to soy nuts in the past which caused a terrible case of hives.  So if you even slightly suspect an allergy, stay away from whatever you think is causing the reaction and see if that helps.

Our Chrysler Mini-Van

Our favorite mini-van that we’ve owned was a Chrysler/Plymouth Grand Voyager. They don’t make those anymore, but they sure were good mini-vans. They were comfortable and great for long trips. Now we have a Dodge Caravan which is a great mini-van but not quite as good as our Voyager. The Voyager got better in-town mileage and had a better cruise control on it. One thing that bothers us on the Caravan is that when we’re listening to a CD and we make a sharp turn, the CD will skip. Now that shouldn’t happen! I don’t think that would happen on a Chrysler mini-van. If you have a Chrysler and are wanting to replace some things, you might check out Chrysler 300 accessories.

Dole Recalls Bagged Salad

Dole has once again recalled bagged salad. This time it’s “Dole’s Hearts Delight.” The recall affects these nine states: Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. It also affects parts of Canada: Ontario, Quebec and the Maritime Provinces. The date of the recall is on bags starting around Sept. 8.

Many people eat bagged salad regularly, over 50% or more. I know we eat bagged salad when I find it on sale or when I’m in a time crunch. It’s so important for people to eat dark leafy greens that it’s worth a little extra cost to make sure we’re eating them. But I definitely don’t want to risk getting sick! I won’t be buying Dole anytime soon, I know that for sure.

Traveling on a Trip

I love going on vacations in our mini-van. We have so much room for everybody and everything and even the dog. Since we have three drivers we can take turns driving and that makes it nice. I mostly sit in the front but sometimes move to the middle section. Actually, the captains seats in the middle are more comfortable than the ones in the front, so I need to start riding more in the middle. I want to look at some auto accessories and see if maybe there are some things that would make our trips even better.

Green Drinks – For Your Health

Green drinks (and dark green veggies too) are so healthy for people. And a lot of people do enjoy them. We have a fantastic grocery store called Central Market that concentrates on organics and healthy foods a lot more than the average grocery store. (and it’s actually fun to shop there) I always get fresh-made juice there every time I go. One of my favorites is spinach, carrot, celery and apple. I feel better after I drink it and my stomach feels good because of the PH balance the juice created and also because of the fresh enzymes. I was just visiting Jude’s site, The Beauty Denominator, and read a great article on “The PH Miracle Diet and Green Drinks.” Click here if you’d like to know more about green drinks.

Website Clocks are Convenient

Have you noticed the neat website clock on my site? I really like having it on my home page. If I get busy working and lose track of time, it’s real handy to have the clock right there, easy to see and convenient. And if somebody is visiting my site, then they have a clock handy, too, just in case they need to keep track of the time. If you have a site, but don’t have a clock, then I recommend checking out my clock and see about getting one for your site. It’s free!

Watching Movies at Home

Some people have home theaters and watch movies with friends and relatives without the hassle of going to the theater. That would be neat to have a place where you could watch your favorite movies just like in the theater. I’m a big Jane Austin fan so I would enjoy watching “Emma,” “Pride and Prejudice,” plus the “Love Come Softly” series of movies. And what would really be fun would be to watch home movies of Baby J and family events with relatives. We could pop popcorn and have Cokes just like in the theater. And if Baby J were there with us too, then we could have his baby swing or portable Pack & Play in there too so he could swing or nap while we watched our movie. Doesn’t that sound like fun!  But I would think that most families couldn’t afford it unless they had discount home theater seating

Nintendo Game System “Wii” – Great for All Ages

Our son put down a deposit on the Wii as soon as the store was accepting pre-orders for them, and we and some other relatives were fortunate enough to be some of the first to get a Wii when they came out.   We would look at “Wii” articles on the Internet during the weeks before its release.  I thought it looked cool, but I had no idea how fun it would be to play until we actually brought it home.   It is so much fun to play!   A lot of  people think that, too….so many, in fact, that sales for the Wii have surpassed the XBox360.  The Wii is the world’s best-selling game console.   It’s less than half the price of the PS3 and is less than the XBox which makes it more affordable than the other consoles.   Another plus is that Game Cube games can be played on it.

The Wii is great for teenages and young adults but also for little brothers and sisters who might want to play too.  It’s great for parents and grandparents to play as well.  One of my favorite games is the interactive bowling game.  Another favorite of mine is “Brain Age” which helps to sharpen the brain.   There’s such a variety of games, and it’s truly fun for any age.
