Leap Frog Math Circus for Ages 3-6

Lisa at Lisa Reviews recommends Leap Frog Math Circus.  She says that her young daughter, Madison, really enjoys the music and doesn’t realize that she’s learning.  When I was teaching in the Resource Room years ago, I would use a multiplication tables song that helped the students learn their multiplication facts.   Make something fun and children learn faster!

Clothes with Ruching – Great for Everyone

I read a post this week entitled, “Why Ruching Rocks.”   I didn’t know what “ruching” was.  So after doing a little research, I found that ruching is a French word and is an ancient sewing technique.  Cindy at Quilters Fancy has dated it as far back as the Middle Ages.  According to MSN Encarta, ruching is a decorative fabric edging such as decorative edges of gathered, pleated, or frilled fabric.  Or it could be decorative ribbon.   It can help to conceal flaws in figures such as love handles.  A lot of places have clothes with ruching.

“BABY J” Has Arrived! :)

Our first grandbaby, a grandson, arrived this past Wednesday.  He is so adorable and so precious.  Anyone who’s been around a newborn baby knows how precious they are.   It’s amazing how a whole room full of people (even four men) can sit or stand around in a hospital room and be totally fascinated and entertained by watching a tiny newborn .  Well…he wasn’t exactly tiny…he weighed 8 pounds and was 20 inches long.  But in comparison to everyone else in the room, he was tiny.  And it was the sweetest thing when he put his tiny little fingers around one of my fingers, or when he made those sweet little sounds that only newborns make, or when he finally opened his eyes and looked at me!   We thank God for this sweet little bundle of joy.  What a blessing in the lives of all of us in that hospital room!

Recipe for Strawberry “Fruitlatti”

This is one of our favorite recipes and is so refreshing on a hot day:

1 pint fresh strawberries, hulled (wash well to remove pesticides)

1 banana (not green, ripe is better)

8 ice cubes

1/4 – 1/2 cup water depending on preferred consistency

sweetener (we use Stevia which is found at health food stores and Central Market)

Blend just until there are tiny pieces of ice still left.

This will make 3 large fruilatties or 4 small ones.

The New Harry Potter Movie, The Order of the Phoenix, is our Favorite

Well, we finally got to see the newest Harry Potter movie and thought it was great!  I vaguely remember thinking the second movie was my favorite, but now it’s definitely the fifth movie that I (we) like the best.  We didn’t care too much for the third movie, although I really liked the third book.   The movie wasn’t completely true to the book and portrayed a dark side of Harry.   The fourth movie cut out too many important parts and was lacking in some things.  But this newest movie was very well produced and showed Harry’s character in its true sense.   Harry’s statement at the very end was so cool.

I must admit I haven’t read the fifth (or sixth or seventh) books, but our son, daughter and son-in-law have, and our son wants to reread all seven books now.   They are such Harry Potter fans that they went to the midnight release of the seventh book!
