Planning Ahead for Thanksgiving Dinner

With working full time, it’s sometimes hard to get excited about cooking a huge meal and spending a lot of time in the kitchen preparing for it.  A lot of people either go out to eat on Thanksgiving Day or else they order a pre-cooked turkey dinner and bring it home.  Some, however, like the idea of cooking it themselves, yet they don’t want to spend hours and hours in the kitchen on their days off.  (some time is needed for catching up on a little sleep lost during the busy work week plus wanting to get up early on Friday to shop in the wee hours of the morning…lol)

If you’re one of those who wants to cook but doesn’t want to spend forever in the kitchen, here are some time-saver recipes for a home cooked Thanksgiving dinner:

Computers!

Even though we have new computers in the new wing of our school, we have had so many technical problems.  It’s amazing to me that we have as many problems as we do with our computers and printers.  And yesterday, I had an educational DVD freeze up while we were trying to watch it.  Very frustrating!

Some people have had trouble with a virus on their computers and have lost data.  Now that’s really frustrating!  Maybe they need a virus scanner or something to prevent that from happening in the future, but the damage has already been done as far as data lost.

I had trouble with my old computer crashing or freezing up, but our son was able to find a really good deal on a great Dell laptop at a computer auction from a highly reliable source.  What a blessing!!  It’s wonderful to be able to do what I need to do and not have my computer crash a couple of times or even more.  It was getting so bad the last week I had my old computer that it would crash within the first five minutes.  Extremely frustrating!!

Computers!  What would we do without them.  We depend on them so much, and they’re great when they’re working like they’re supposed to.  But when they don’t, it can be very frustrating!

Children’s Toiletries Safety Guide

When it comes to our children, we want the best for them which includes not exposing them to certain ingredients.  The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has a Safety Guide to Children’s Personal Care Products that you might want to check out and compare the ingredients in toiletries you use at home with the ingredients on the list.  They have “Some Better Picks” which lets parents know about products that are safer for their children.

Ordering Online

Times have changed, and so many people order online nowadays.  I’ve ordered several things this summer, including shoes and vitamins.  The items are always well packaged, so well packaged sometimes that a retractable knife would come in handy.

It’s amazing how many things you can order online these days.  Actually, you can order just about everything: furniture, mattresses, cars, groceries, diapers, medicines, and the list goes on and on.  With the busy lives people live nowadays, ordering online is a real time saver!

Free Online Survey Software and Customer Satisfaction Survey

Whenever we go shopping or out to eat, I love it when they tell us about a customer satisfaction survey we can do to tell about our shopping or dining experience.  This usually means that we get a coupon of some type.  And it also means that we have an opportunity to let the company know how we liked their place, the product or meal, quality of customer service, cleanliness, etc.  They often ask if we would visit this establishment again or refer it to a friend or family member.

The survey also offers a chance to relate any bad experience with service or the product.  This rarely happens, “once in a blue moon,” but if for some reason something happens then the survey lets you explain the details of that experience.  Sometimes, it’s just something simple but yet something that a good business owner would want to know about in order to improve their business.

If you happen to be a business owner, there is free online survey software that you can check out to see if it’s what you need for your business.  In my estimation, if something is free and might be something that would be really beneficial, then why not give it a try and see if it meets the needs of the business.   If the survey helps you understand the customers’ expectations and satisfaction, that is valuable software.  Otherwise, there’s no real way to know if the customers’ expectations have been met or not.  It’s just a guessing game without any quantifiable data.

Automated Surveys are so convenient for both sides, the customer and the business.  The survey can be done anytime at the customer’s convenience,  24-hours-a-day.  What makes this great for the business is that no staff is required to give the surveys.  What an easy way to get valuable information to make sure customers are satisfied.

Lists

Do you make lists of things to do, things to buy, things not to forget?  I definitely do!  I am such a list person and our daughter is too.  I have several lists going right now such as what I need to do this week, places I need (or want) to shop, what housework needs to get done here at home before school starts, what school work need to get done here at the house before school starts, etc.

I can imagine that a man’s list would include work in the yard and helping out around the house.  His shopping list might include auto care supplies and if he smoked then maybe a pack of Backwoods cigars.  I can also imagine that a man’s list would be shorter and he would not have as many lists.  Maybe that’s because women are known for multitasking a lot, and they need lists to help stay organized with the myriad of things on their lists.  Just a thought.

Scanners

School will be starting soon!  I teach special ed, so I don’t have hundreds of papers to grade.  However, I can imagine upper grade teachers wishing they had some type of barcode scanner system, such as  POSGuys, so they could just scan the papers.  There is scantron available, but the student has to bubble in A, B, C, or D for their answer.  I think it would be cool if there were some type of scanner created that could scan across math papers and grade them.  That would be only in the movies!

Hiking in the Mountains

It’s been so hot here in Texas this weekend, and a lot of places across the country have been feeling the heat, too.  Makes me want to be in mountains where the temperatures are in the fifties and sixties, maybe wearing some kind of good hiking boots such as Lowa Hiking Boots.  Not that I can do much hiking anymore, but it sure is nice to dream!

Reminder: Friday is “Cow Appreciation Day” at Chick-Fil-A

This Friday will be a fun “Cow Appreciation Day” at Chick-Fil-A!  If you dress “fully like a cow,” you get a free meal for free.  If you wear “partial cow attire” which means “a cow accessory,” you get a free entree such as a sandwich.  I’ve never heard of a cow accessory (lol) but that’s something like a hat with ears, etc.  We have done this several years and have gotten free sandwiches.  It’s fun, too, watching people come in and stand in line in their cow attire.  And what’s really fun is watching the people come in who know nothing about dressing like a cow!
