Patio Chairs

Now that warmer weather is here, there are people who are fixing up their patios.  Some may be getting new patio chairs or patio chair covers.   Waterproof covers for patio furniture are great to protect the cushions from rain, falling leaves, and debris that might fall on them.  No one likes to sit on wet, dirty patio furniture!   If the chairs have been covered, people will have cushions that will be clean and dry for them.

Help for Those We Care About

Do you have a friend or family member who is in need of drug rehab treatment centers?  We work with a ministry where we go to church that helps people going through rehab.  The minister who teaches the classes uses a 12-step Bible based program which is very effective in helping people.  It’s a blessing to be able to work with this ministry and see the humility and honesty of some of the people who are trying to straighten out their lives.

Don’t Forget Sunglasses

Now that spring is officially here, that means a lot of people will be outside doing things they enjoy.  Most people remember to put on sunscreen, but do they protect their eyes with good sunglasses?  There are sites online such as Eye Save where busy people can order sunglasses and save time from having to go shopping for them.

My husband’s glasses automatically turn darker when he’s out in the sun, but I have sunglasses that I carry in my purse all the time.  Whenever I’m driving and there’s a glare, I make sure to wear them and my eyes feel so much better!

Recipe for Cracker Candy

My college roommate (I won’t tell you how many years ago) emailed me a recipe that she got from her cousin.  This recipe sounds so good & easy to make and would be good for a special holiday or to put in a pretty container and give as a gift:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 24 Ritz crackers
  • ¾ cup butter (1 ½ sticks)
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped pecans
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Line a 13 x 9 inch pan with foil; lightly coat foil with cooking spray.  Arrange crackers in a layer in pan.  In a saucepan, bring butter and brown sugar to a boil; cook 3 minutes, stirring constantly.  Pour mixture over crackers.  Bake 5 minutes; turn off oven.  Sprinkle crackers with chocolate chips and let stand in oven 3 minutes, or until chocolate is melted.  Spread chocolate evenly over crackers.  Sprinkle pecans over chocolate. Let cool, then break into pieces.  Store in airtight container in the fridge.

A Good Night’s Sleep

A good night’s sleep is invaluable!  Not only does it help a person to feel better the next day and be more mentally alert, but it is also vital in the long run for a person’s health.  The deep sleep cycle is when the body repairs tissues, builds bone and muscle, and helps to strengthen the immune system. That’s why people invest in mattresses such as the natural latex mattress boston,  read up on all the tips to help ensure a restful night’s sleep such as not watching TV in bed, and stay away from caffeine in the late afternoon and evening.

Looking Back

Time passes so fast, and things that are regular events suddenly become memories.  I was just thinking about all the many times we went to high school football games, mainly to watch our son play with the band at half time.  We would sit on aluminum benches and would enjoy the half time show every time.  We went to many band competitions, band meetings, SOS meetings (Save Our Seniors) graduation night planning meetings, etc.  Such a busy time, those four years!  Lots of wonderful memories!

Retirement Annuities

I don’t know much about annuities, but I know there’s information available online at sites such as AnnuityAdvantage.com – Home Page.  There are two main types of annuities, immediate and deferred.  There is an advantage to tax deffered annuities because interest can be made on the money not being paid in taxes.  Taxes are paid when the interest is withdrawn.  Check online for more information.

Antioxidants in Tea

Here are a few tidbits of information about green and black tea:

  • Try to always drink tea soon after it’s brewed to obtain the highest antioxidants!
  • Brewed green or black tea has more antioxidants than any whole fruit or vegetable (one study says 10 times the amount).
  • Bottled iced tea still has a good bit of antioxidants and is much better for you than a soda.
  • Green and black teas are rich in polyphenols and flavonoids.

Tea has been gaining in popularity over the years, so much that places like Starbucks added teas to their menu.

Identity Theft

There are a lot of safeguards against identity theft that people can take nowadays.  There are things such as an identity stronghold rfid leather wallet, for example, that are available for added security.   Here are some tips for safeguarding your identity:

  • Don’t keep your social security number in your wallet or purse
  • Check your credit report yearly
  • Make sure you mail bills in a post office collection box instead of an unsecured location
  • Shred all credit card offers, ATM receipts, charge slips, anything with your signature, insurance forms, physician’s statements, check and bank statements
  • Use one credit card for online shopping and use it only for that purpose so that it’s easy to check for fraudulent charges.  Do not use a debit card.
  • Use a firewall program on your computer and update your virus protection software on a regular basis
  • Don’t give out personal information over the phone unless you’ve initiated the call
