Brightstorm.com Helps Improve SAT Scores and Grades

Brightstorm
Brightstorm helps high school students improve their grades and their test scores on the SAT.  Using online video courses, creative teachers present the material in a clear manner and highlight key information.  This makes it easier for students to understand the subject mattter.  Study guides, practice problems, and interactive quizzes guide them through their homework so they will be ready for the SAT or a test in the classroom.

There is no cost for registration and no credit card is necessary.  After registering, students can sample 19 courses free before they make a decision on which teacher-created courses to purchase.  What’s really neat is that students can choose which teacher they like.  They go at their own pace, choose their own order, fill in gaps in their knowledge, and master critical concepts.  Sounds like a great program to me!

At Brightstorm, “Great learning starts with great teaching.”

Four Foods On Friday 58

#1.  Does your family usually eat meals in the kitchen or somewhere else?

We always eat in the kitchen.  It’s nice having one meal a day where we’re all together.

#2.  Who usually does the dishes in your house?

Me and the dishwasher.  I wash the pots and pans and the dishwasher does the rest!
#3.  What’s your favorite small appliance or tool in the kitchen?

Hmmm…depends on what I’m making.  I like all my appliances.  My favorite tools would probably be my “Come-apart Kitchen Shears” and my avocado slicer.
#4. This one’s for my son. Share a recipe for chili.

I don’t have a recipe for chili, but I would like chili made with turkey.  I found this recipe that sounds good:

Simple Turkey Chili

Ground Breaking Research for Menstrual Blood Stem Cells

The National Institutes of Health and Cryo-Cell International, Inc., have joined together in partnership to research menstrual blood stem cells as a possible treatment for breast cancer.  This exploratory research will use cutting-edge techniques to track stem cells using MRI, magnetic resonance imaging which is a non-invasive method.  What is really great is that even though up to now there has not been a way to do long term tracking of stem cells in a non-invasive way, there’s a good chance that will change.  Not only will using an MRI be able to track the menstrual blood stem cells in their relationship to breast cancer itself but it also could help in finding the best breast cancer therapy.

Treating Diseases is an area where cord blood stem cell transplants have been used to treat more than 70 diseases.  Thousands of lives have been saved around the world and that is so awesome!  And all of this is done in a noncontroversial way.  The possibility of helping countless future lives is endless.  Not only is this used for cancer but also for inherited metabolic disorders, deficiencies of the immune system, hematopoetic cell disorders,  and inherited erythrocyte abnormalities to name some of the diseases.

Cyro-Cell offers banking of babies’ cord blood.  They are the best established family cord blood bank in America, serving over 160,000 families worldwide with well trained child birth educators available for consultation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Our Black Friday Shopping Experience

We had a great time shopping on Black Friday.  I met our daughter and one of her best friends at Old Navy at 4:30 AM.  We stood in line and enjoyed talking.  When the doors opened at 5, it was very orderly going into the store.  Next, we headed to Super-Target for the doors to open at 6.  The line was enormously long.  We heard one lady in line next to us talking about her horrible experience at Wal-Mart.  She said people were rude, one lady threatened to “mace” her, and some were shoving.  There’s no excuse for that kind of behavior.  We were blessed to encounter only nice people.  After getting the bargains at Target, we proceded to Mimi’s for a nice breakfast, then on to Lifeway Christian Bookstore.  We finished our shopping at Baby’s R Us and then to the mall briefly.  We had a wonderful time and it really was a lot of fun.  The best part was being together in the wee hours of the morning, talking and laughing!

FormalTux.com

For those of you who are or have been looking at tuxedos, FormalTux.com has a great selection and also has a line of discounted tuxedo jackets and pants.  Whether a tuxedo is needed for a wedding, formal event, or concert, it is great to own a tuxedo for whatever event requires formal attire.  My husband owns his own tux because he plays in an orchestra, and it is definitely worth the investment.

For the Love of Horses

Do you know any people who raise horses?  I know this petite gal who loves horses and keeps her horse at a stable.  She visits it every day to groom and see after it.  I don’t know what kind of saddle she uses when she rides it, whether she likes english saddles or what kind she likes.  I don’t think her husband and young son share her passion for horses, but they support her nonetheless.

Wedding Invitations

I have been to several weddings that took place during the winter, but I don’t remember ever receiving wedding invitations that looked like a winter invitation. The one pictured with the snowflake is an example of a beautiful winter wedding invitation. Invitation Consultants has many beautiful invitations from which to choose for any time of year plus a good selection for themed weddings.

Wow! Can These Young Girls Sing! Listen to the National Anthem!

These are five girls aged 8 to 13, the “Cactus Cuties,” singing the National Anthem – really good!!  They seem so young but they can really sing.  There is something that warms the heart to listen to these younsters sing a patriotic song such as this.  I wanted to know the words to the whole song so I looked it up.  We never sing most of the verses, but the last verse impressed me with this phrase:
And this be our motto: ‘In God is our trust’ “

Here’s Something for the Person Who Has Everything

What do you get the person who has everything? What about looking at steel buildings from Olympia and choosing a metal storage shed? Seriously, storage sheds are nice. We had one built that matches our house or rather blends with our house very well. Sheds are great places to store anything and everything. (Right now, ours has lawn equipment, boxes and boxes of teaching materials from when I taught school, and holiday decorations in it.) If you don’t have a shed, you might want to consider one.   They’re great!  Who knows, you might even want to get one for a gift!
